:::Rickles8099::: 1993 Si4ws

1993 prelude si with obvious rust and faded honda red.

i picked this car up over a year ago. it had snapped a timing belt and some bent valves. so all i had to do was put in a new head in and timing belt on and it was up and running good.

The day i picked it up:

Once it was up and running, i decided that i was not going to modify it and just use it as a backup daily driver.......

then the mod bug bit me.

August of last year i decided that the car needs a little more umph getting on the highways but needs to keep powersteering, cruise, and ac. since the f series bottom ends are better for boost, i pulled the engine out and put in a f22b2 bottom end with a h23 head.

and while the intake manifold was off, i decided to pull out the secondary butterflies and fill the holes with aluminum expoxy. which you can see in the picture below right in front of the intake air temperature sensor:

i also deleted the egr valve, and installed a small t3 turbo and ended up with the following:

front mount intercooler:

downpipe made by me:

as for as fuel management goes, in went 450cc dsm injectors and originally had a p06 converted to p28 ecu running crome but decided to just put my hondata s300 p28 in instead:

on the tiny turbo thats in there now, it now makes 188whp and 212 ft/lbs of torque on 8lbs which makes for fun with the 4ws on backroads.

i do not have any plans for the exterior except for fixing the rust and eventually getting it painted again.

interior is all stock except for a boost gauge and a set of map lights i installed from an integra. (ill get pics up soon of them)

questions/comments/concerns are welcome and encouraged.

Re: :::Rickles8099::: 1993 Si4ws

I was thinking about removing my secondary butterfiles. Did you notice anything different and what all steps did it require? From what I've heard, there's no real difference.

its a cast log manifold i got off of ebay for like $85. i prefer cast manifolds on street cars for their reliability.

before my prelude i had a crx with a z6 swap and a t3/t4 turbo running a cast manifold and put out 265whp and 211 ft/lbs of torque on 12lbs and ran it for years with no issues.

i cannot honestly answer the question about noticing any differences. i did the g series swap, turbo, and butterfly removal all at the same time. my reasoning for removing them is that when turboed, the intake is pressurized and the more open it is the better it will flow and run better.

and to remove the butterfly's, i had to take the intake apart and remove each individual round butterfly from the shaft that holds them all together and then remove the shaft from the manifold. i then mixed up some devcon aluminum expoxy and filled the holes that the shaft went through and reassembled the manifold with new gaskets.

i have another manifold im about to remove the butterflys from again and remove the seperators for the butterflys along with port match the ports and bore out the throttle body for a 68mm throttle body. ill take pictures of the process and post up a write up when i do it.

Looks good! Might not look the best exterior wise but getting it to ride with more fun is better! Keep it up and update us. Peace!

i totally agree with this. my tubular log manifold started cracking at the weld between #1 and 2 cylinders, then that crack slowly crept to the turbo flange. pretty sure it was my fault tho.
cast FTW on a DD

Still can be a sleeper with a nice set of one piece headlights and fresh paint :-)

Gonna need to get some more ponies out of it before you can call it a sleeper though. An h22a with bolt ons would run pretty even with this.

yeah plans for either this winter/spring or next winter/spring is fix the body.

as of now i have some stuff laying around im going to be putting on it in the next month or two that will net me some nice hp gains. some of the items include but not limited to are:

t3/t4 60 trim turbo with 48ar exhaust and 60ar compressor
boost silenoid with built in hondata s300 boost controller
3bar gm map sensor
3in mandrel bent exhaust
68mm throttle body
ported intake manifold port matched and tb bored to 68mm
lsd with either the current h23 transmission or f22 transmission (i havent decided)
and a couple of other things i cannot remember at the moment. (tired due to staying up till 3:30am doing a b16 turbo build for a friend and getting up at 6:30am for work)

with the above, im going to turn the boost up till i get about 275whp and leave it there till next winter where i already have a f23 block directly from honda that has never been bored or honed and going to build it.

oh and during my lunch, i went out and took some pictures of my map lights that i got from a 90-93 integra and installed last summer:

Re: :::Rickles8099::: 1993 Si4ws

I had a little time this saturday with nothing to do so i started to make an exhaust. my plan is to make the exhaust now so when i go with my next setup, all i have to make exhaust-wise is the downpipe and the rest will bolt in.

the box of parts:

old exhaust on the ground in garage:

mid section in progress:

completed mid section next to old mid section:

painted mid section with rear piece so far:

as on now, thats how it sits. next saturday, ill finish up the exhaust by adding a the rest of the piping by the rear suspension and will put a flange on it so if/when i go to change the muffler, ill just need to add a flange to the muffler and bolt it in.

preview of muffler on back of car (will be raised another inch or so)

Nice build you got yourself. I like the fact that you just wanted it to be a bit more peppy, and you did just that. Nothing more, nothing less.

Hey just wondering (I am missing all my links on G23 swaps due to a new computer)

Did you run into any fitment issues with the H23 head? Was there a need to JB weld up any of the oil galleries? I can't recall if that was an H23/H22 hybrid, or F22/H23 hybrid issue.

Anything that you would recommend to others when swapping?

all the information i needed was in this thread on hondatech

it has everything you will need to know down to what driver side motor mount to use and what water tube to get.

there was no fitment issues of the h23 head onto the f22 block. the only thing i had to do was block off one oil return galley in the head that the block does not have. if you do not block it off, it will leak oil (at least thats what was said, i have yet to experience any oil leaks) i did not use jb weld, instead i used some devcon aluminum epoxy that i had laying around. supposed to be better than jb weld and when i had block posted my old d16z6 i used it and didnt have a problem with that engine leaking for the 5+ years i dailied the car.

nothing really to recommend to anyone other that read up and know what youre doing and take your time doing it. all the h series transmission/clutch/flywheel will bolt right up to the f series block. only concern is that when you swap a f22 bottom end in with a h23 head, your compression ratio is something like 8.8 which i think is a little on the low side when youre naturally asperated, but great for a force inducted setup.
