Re: :::trickster::: 1997 Base

Thanks man, its pretty primitive compared to most of the rides I've seen on here but I'm making the most of it =p

Edit: Found some photos on an old phone that I thought I had lost. Includes first mods of clear turn signals, fog lights, and HIDs

Re: :::trickster::: 1997 Base

Painted my window trim last weekend with Dupli-Color Trim Paint and it turned out great! In all lighting it perfectly matches the texture and color of the oem trim.

Prior to painting

Overkilled the newspaper protection

First Coat

Afterward

I also picked up a wwrs lip kit last weekend and am in the process of sanding it. Also in the process of getting a quote on rust removal : ) Finally following through on some of the goals I set out two years ago

Re: :::trickster::: 1997 Base

thanks man, tbh they dont look as good when the headlights are on because they are then overpowered and look white-ish. But when the headlights are off they are a nice deep purple. Possibly also because the headlights are 55W and the fogs are 35W and smoked

Did some painting this weekend

Did some painting this weekend and not all of it went as planned but I thought I'd upload pics of my successes and failures regardless.

Primed my wwrs front lip and hopefully will get it fully painted by the end of the week. Painted the header heat shield flat black with VHT header paint which went well. Then today I painted my valve cover with VHT header paint flat red and it ended up looking orange? Would not recommend this paint if you actually want it to be red as I do. Got a serious halloween engine theme going on right now with the black and orange.

Also, the paint remover I used on the engine didnt seem to work, possibly because it was too old? No idea. But since I had the valve cover off, have to drive to work on monday, and couldnt go to the store to get new paint thinner thought I'd go ahead and try it without removing the old paint, just sanded it up as prep. Of course that resulted in flaking of the old paint after I put on the new paint and the job ended up crappy.

Since the paint ended up orange and flaky I decided I'm going to redo in the next week or two and buy some new paint thinner for the job. Since I'm redoing it I stopped caring about the paint job which resulted in lots of scratches and imperfections on the valve cover. Anyways here are the pictures of the current state of my engine bay. I'm going to sand the letters in a day or two just to get some practice doing it.

Hopefully I dont have to go to a mechanic anytime before the repaint so I dont get any weird looks about my engine haha
I'm going to go with the Dupli-color gloss red engine paint next time since its also high heat but not as high as exhaust header temperature conditions. Hopefully it turns out red.

Front lip fitment prior to clear coat

Got home from work and the black coat is dry. Tried fitting it on the car and now I'm really excited about the whole kit : ). This is prior to the clear coat though and I still have to get the rust fixed on the quarter panels and the rest of the kit painted before I'll properly install it. Here are some pictures:

Valve cover paint round 2

As I said in my last post I was repainting the valve cover this weekend and it came out PERFECT! Looks way better than it was and than the stupid flaky scratched orange haha. UNFORTUNATELY, 12 hours after I installed it my friend sat on the hood of my car, put a huge scratch along the whole hood while sliding off, dented the hood, and the hood crushed into my freshly painted valve cover and scratched it. I'm so depressed now. Counter productive weekend; repainted the valve cover, then scratched/dented hood with chipped valve cover. Sucks so bad. Anyways heres the photos:

Awsome cheap mods man! I did the side trip painting and its much better than paying honda all that money for it just to happen again in 10 years lol. Going to do my engine cover too soon just like yours.

Re: :::trickster::: 1997 Base

Thanks bud yeah I do try a lot of cheap mods haha anything diy I attempt. I agree the window tint went perfectly! only cost as much as the can of paint =p

On a side note the lip kit painting is going terribly I keep messing it up. Its a slow process but my rust isn't getting fixed for a couple of weeks so I've got some time. Just the amount paint I'm using from refinishing over and over is really adding up in costs.

Bought a turtle wax scratch repair kit for the scratch (from the hood dent in the engine paint post) and a 3M headlight restore kit for the clear coat that appears to be on my headlights. Hopefully will get around to using both of these this weekend

I really need to do a VC paint job... I was going to go same colour as you. What did you use to get the old paint off and prep the surface for painting?
