:::Si96Lude::: 96 Si prelude

Well after a long and painfull death of my h23 i have finally decided to make a ride page. I bought her for 800 bucks because the whooping 270,000 miles that was on her. The honda cancer wasnt so bad on her so i decided to give it a try. I was done with domestic and i had always wanted a Honda. I know i didnt want a civic or an accord, i want something unique, something that was not a regular car. One day on my drive to school, i was thinking about this, and out of blue a prelude passed me. I didnt know much about them, all i know is a good friend of mine that had a 6th gen accord always talked about them. So the hunt initiated. i looked on ebay, cars.com, autotrader. nothing in a 100 mile range. so i saw an ad for a 92 s model with 150,XXX miles on it. He wanted 1200 bucks for it. I called him up he said he was on him way back from chicago. i had 2 grand to spend, and i wanted to spend it wisely. So i checked out the car, it was a peppy fun little car. I went home and made my decision. i called him back telling him i wanted the car. he tells me that some guy offered him 1400 for it. So now there is an auction going on for the only prelude for sale in the area. i bump to 1500. i told him im on the way. I get there and he sold it!!! SO now im dieing. at this time i didnt know squat about honda engines. Good thing i didnt settle on the F22. SO i get back home and continue my hunt. Nothing....nothing. Then about 4 hours later a listing come up for a 96 prelude si. Asking price of 1500 obo. I was soo pissed there wasnt a number. so i emailed the guy and told him i wanted to see the car now. I was on my to see an nice accord and i just blew that guy off lol. So i go check it out. And I see all those miles. That was the first turn off. He did have all the service records on it. The car was untouched, loaded. So i take it for a test drive. I didnt want to get on hard, so i come back and he asks me if i romped on it pretty good. I tell him no and he insists on me going back out and doing it again. so hit some country roads, and put it to the max. I was instantly in love, hugging the corners, the power band was great. i had my sunroof. so i take it back, i tell, him that i want it, but i thought 1500 was too much. BTW i was sold on the EL gauges. So i tell him that i will sleep on it. So he calls me the next morning telling me about 5-6 ppl have tested it out and the highest offer he got was 1000 bucks. SO i told him 1100 and i will be there in 15 minutes. I got called in for work, and couldn't make it so i was frantic about getting the car. I called him the next morning told him sorry and he said, bring ,me 800 buck and you can take it. SO i rushed over there and got her. took her to my house and started researching everything about it. Then i ran it Preludezone and Preludepower. I decided to join PZ and you guys gave me a warm welcome and plenty info. No i know quite about ludes. Anyway, i drive her for about a month and on the way home from raping a ford probe GT, i heard the most painfull noise in my life....What sounded like a spun bearing, was a broken crankshaft. I crippled her home and made the decision to begin the H22 swap. I disassembled it all and what slowly begin as DD, became the love of my life.

Re: :::Si96Lude build thread::: 96 Si prelude

Nice story. looking forward to some progress and better pics... same thing my project needs :). I bought my h23 for $1100 w/ 198,000... never lost the engine, but I don't think she was in great shape... 1 quart of 20w50 per 1000 miles and later in life an intermittent lag in power... couldn't run that engine too hard. It had been run too hard too cold in the past and I gave her a nice plateau with good maintenance to finish off life... then I traded my h23 for some brand new agxes... :) so began the project.

you've been nominated for ROTM (by me) as my lude was shortly after the swap. I didn't win and didn't deserve to be there, but it felt nice, haha. The idea of, and dedication to, fixing up an older car counts for a lot.

Thanks glen. Yeah i need to get some better and more pics. the interior is mint in the car. Some old guy owned it. he sold it to a younger guy with a family that never really got to drive it. So it was kept in good shape. I just broke my WORKING cupholder today :(
