Next: Upgrades......
SO..... since it has to go to the shop to have the head machined and valves replaced, I thought I would do a little work on the electrical, while the hood was still off. First to come out was the OLD stereo wire... I plan on running about 1000 W in the trunk, and I got a Heck of a deal on some (slightly used) 1/0 AWG : ![]() ![]() Out with the Old: ![]() ![]() ![]() I noticed another backyard Mechanic eff-up!! ![]() see if you notice it... ![]() I was removing the wires off the starter and found that the third bolt on the engine/Tranny mount is missing..... WTF????? I swear I took some engine degreaser and a power washer.. but I sure am still seeing a LOT of grease, oil and dirt in these pictures. :sigh: Last edited by LilMsPrelude; 06-15-2008 at 03:11 AM. |

Best $500 anyone could have ever spent even if you have to rebuild the engine it a heck of a deal.

I forgot to take pictures... and there aint now way in Hayde's I am taking it off again... But, I found a better way to route my 1/0,
INSIDE the Fender! I followed a factory Harness up over the wheel well and came out just in front of the old air filter box: ![]() from the Fender well, there is actually a VERY NICE grommetted access hole to the interior of the vehicle just under the blower fan on the passenger side, and to the right of the Computer module/housing. ![]() inside the car--(I still Need some grommets for the pass through the seat rail and under the hood) ![]() |

Thank you Yogi... to tell you the truth, when the timing belt went and I got the bad news about the valves, I went looking for a new car... I was so depressed at all the work my baby needed... but the more I looked around and driving other cars, not a dang one of em compared to my baby lude... And I dont mind getting my hands dirty, so... it is my "project." And I will get her in pristine shape once again. I have a whole LAUNDRY list of stuff to do... but it is worth it IMO.

I would just do a full rebuild and throw in sweet performance parts and a SC to lol

Im not interested in having a racer at all... gas is toooooo dang expensive, I want something I enjoy and drive to Portland or to my old hometown on the weekends. It just has to be trustworthy, and hence the reason I am going kind of crazy on the stereo too.
As far as the drive train, suspension, etc., I have not done anything nor do I know enough to tell you what has been done..... I KNOW I want to get a performance clutch installed.. the OEM gets hot and slips to easy in the summer heat/driving. Again, something else a real mechanic would have inspected and probably replaced. I WOULD like to drop the front end about an inch or two, I saw one on another forum that looked VERY nice, kind of an aggressive stance/look to it. and of Course I put on the e-bay cold air intake... even that cheapo set up made it SOUND better and run better... no idea how much, but I swear it increased HP as well... |
|
||||
here is a sneak peak of what is going in the trunk:
![]() ![]() and TWO of these: ![]() One for the subs, at 4 Ohm (mono Parallel) = about 450W and one for four 5.25" mids (will be fiberglassed in the door) and 1 pair of tweets in the door as well.... and the source: ![]() ![]() Last edited by LilMsPrelude; 06-15-2008 at 03:34 AM. |

forgot this until I did "The LIST"
the only real body damage is on the right rear fender. Got a Divit above the wheel well and damage towards the bottom where it meets the door.... the story is that the previous owner turned to sharply leaving a gas station and swiped the concrete pillar. I Swear it wasnt me!!! ![]() |
|

tell me that b*tches address so i can smack her in the face.
the car is coming along nicely btw

well..... as you will get to know me............
I was a long haul truck driver... and I had a BF that was also driving for the same company.. I knew I wanted this car... but the local Honda Dealer wouldnt even deal with it???? ( ![]() He, my then BF, lived in Weiser, ID. and had a mechanic that worked on all of his vehicles, so I thought I was safe.... tow the car over and let him spend a few months working on it, while I was out on the road. Come to find out, NOT Just anyone can work on a Honda... they are a unique engine...I now know.... that first mechanic didnt have a dang clue obviously! |
|
||||
Finally got some more work done on the lude today.
The tool I ordered finally came in the mail on Friday! ![]() ![]() I would rather have the "plier" type, but I can't afford the $150 this lil guy did the trick tho! I started by laying out the parts/pieces I needed to start assembling. ![]() I didn't have any tech-flex, I may do that later, as well as some better heat shrink.. this stuff was just ok.. it didn't tighten up around the fitting itself quite like I would have preferred. It was free with those MONDO 1/0 fitting so I am not going to complain. Assembly: Put your heat shrink and Jacket on first and strip JUST enough back to fit in the barrel, ![]() Place it in the Crimper, ![]() And SMACK the heck out of it... LOL! and this is what you get.... ![]() Fire up the torch and SLOWLY heat the shrink tube to prevent blistering and burning. ![]() The next thing to do is take off the Battery rack so I can get my Dremel down into the Ground Mount: ![]() ![]() And the new starter wire: ![]() Not sure why I missed taking a picture of the final assembly-- the top hole on the ground mount is for the bracket that holds the two wires together and away from any moving parts. Since I had the Dremel in hand... I took off one of the strut/shock mounting nuts and took it down to bare metal: ![]() Gawd I Love the look of this BIG wire! ![]() |
|
||||
Next, the alternator.... I was told Honda does this rather Odd thing and runs the primary from the alt through a sensor of some type... for the computer to monitor the output..... I 'spose.. but anyways, it runs over the top of the valve cover, goes somewhere down against the firewall the re-surfaces up at the strut tower and into the fuse box under the hood. It is "paralleled" and sent to the battery from there.
![]() This factory wiring is 4AWG, so I just added another run of 4 AWG around the front. I will be replacing it with some better wire in the future. I didn't have enough of the good stuff left.. lol.. so I ran some of the 4AWG i pulled out from the previous install. It's not the prettiest, but it will get the juice there! ![]() I used the stock flex tube and just pulled some more 4 AWG through it to go to the battery... the factory wire was full of corrosion! (sorry for the bad picture... but it was so white the camera just wouldn't focus/differentiate) ![]() ![]() And it all ends right here! ![]() ![]() ![]() Compared to what USED to be there... ![]() Slight improvement..... no? of course the wire for the stereo is not hooked up yet... I still need to get some grommets for it.... the hole itself is 3/4" and the wire measures 1/2" I believe... the token is about the same size as a quarter: ![]() I'm gonna take the head unit out of the dash and tow her down to the shop!!! tomorrow or Monday!!! YAY!! I am getting excited!!! |
|
|||
What up man! Seems like you've been through 'alot' with tha Lude' so far, but regardless it's comin' along nicely!
![]() |
|
||||

I forgot to ask. Are you using all four mids? I suppose thats one way to quiet down those tweets. When I was at Rockford's training one of instructors had a set of Quarts in his G35 and they had a great smooth mid but the tweet was WOOWEE! bright. They were pillar mounted which wasnt ideal in my book. Had they been coaxially mounted or closer to the mid I think it would have helped.

four mids (2 each) in the bottom of the each door...
I have the tweets capped back so they arent too harsh-- just ONE set is all it needs.

Re: :::LilMsPrelude::: 1992 Si
I wish I had good news for ya Brash...
I got into a lil financial conundrum with a court trustee and lost a bunch of money I was going to use to start putting my interior together. *sigh* -insert bad word here- And I moved so the funds are pretty nil right now. I'm Just drivin' her and enjoying listening to the engine for now. I am bargain hunting for parts and doing little affordable things to bring it all together. I SHOULD take pictures of all my lil toys I 'spose. I might just do that hits weekend.
