Your pics have ads popping up.
Annoying....

Where did you end up grounding your amp?

Re: 2001 SH all new stereo wiring

Mat, when I was about your age and had my first car, I had a good quality headunit and speakers installed by a pro. We'll call it store A.
A Yamaha head unit (not available in the US) and JBL speakers in the doors and deck. Deck were 3 way with 8" round woofers and doors were deep well with 6" woofers.

But not satisfied I bought a big @$$ Blaupunkt amp at store B. Dude wanted $35 to install it I did not have $35. Went back to store A and was told "anything you bought from guy at store B will not be installed by us"...you see car stereo guys hated each other back then. All store A sold were Alpine amps. I wanted Blaupunkt...(shoulda bought the Alpine, but that's another story)...
If you wanted a good sound system you bought from a car stereo store...usually owned by drug dealers looking to launder cash...but cool guys who hired the best installers. The drug dealer rivalry spilled over into their car stereo store. They weren't about to say to a 19 year old kid "store B owner cuts into my cocaine money"...so they'd just not install his stuff in said 19 year old kids car.

So I asked my brother for help. He kept putting me off until one day I said "screw this, I got it"...
3 hours later I'm riding down the road all jammin' and I see smoke rolling up from my back deck. I don't mean smoke from a cigarette tip...but holy crap the cars gonna explode smoke!!
Pull over, open trunk, wires melting. Luckily the main fuse to the amp blew.
Took my car back to store B. Guys says "wtf you do this for?" looking at my ground wire attached to the rear deck. He re-wired a few things with fresh wire and $15 later sent me on my way.

Now that was back when car stereo gear was made pretty solid. Nearly everything now is junk.

I guess what I'm sayin' is be dillegent in your search for an amp. Research for the good stuff and spend the extra dough. You've gotten this far. Don't cheap out on the amp. Buy it from a car stereo store, not best buy, or crutchfield etc. That way you'll have the option of seeking advice from an expert installer...or the luxury of having one install it for you.
Later get some better speakers and lose that stupid subwoofer. If you do it right with proper equipment you won't even notice it's gone.

I met a guy with a 12,000 watt stereo in his suburban. No subwoofer. Didn't need it.

Re: 2001 SH all new stereo wiring

^^ awesome!!!

Get ya a $35 cover, size M to keep dust off it, plug your orifices like exhaust pipe, unplug your battery (or put it on a battery tender if yall have one), over inflate your tires 5# or so,
And have at that college life!!

Many folks say change the oil before storing it. But if you just did, no worries.
Oh, and add a bottle of fuel stabilizer and run it through the system for a few minutes before shutting off the car.

Stay in touch.

Re: 2001 SH all new stereo wiring

WTF this all ended so abruptly, I even got to read a post by Renee. This 5hit was mad interesting and I laughed at all the newb stuff but this was a good read and ended so quick I feel cheated as hell... damn
U ever want help with this when u get back to it I got u covered step by step. Ill show u what to do to get rid of noise with my car as an example.. You will see how easy it is to work electronics issues backwards to the source and isolate.. The system is so small and there are only yay things that can go wrong.

Re: 2001 SH all new stereo wiring

awww...thanks, lol.

You see the thing is...now I'm a broke college student... & I got my first speeding ticket...yes...it happened. The one day I take the lude out for a spin after 4 months of a long distance relationship, I just had to get a speeding ticket, smh, I missed driving the lude and I guess I got too excited, I admit it was my fault, but NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! THIS IS NOT HELPING MY FINANCIAL SITUATION! SPEEDING IS NOT WORTH IT! Now I have to deal with the speeding ticket (& another ticket which is slighty more complicated...) & court & parents & school & its just a mess. *annoyed* & *sighhhhhhhhh*

The lude is on hold, temporarily. & now on too more I.C.E. related stuff: the interior & door lights, & stereo don't receive any power (they don't turn or light up). Think it might be a fuse or two

Also something new I found out is that I think I have no coolant. I opened the radiator cap while the car was cold in the morning and i looked bone dry, not sure if I have some coolant. & the other day I was in line at a McDonald's drive through waiting & I realized my temps where near the High level, I shut off my engine immediately...I had to turn it back on to move up in line & get my dollar menu items, and left the line, ASAP. once I started driving temps dropped drastically.

Sorry for the sudden drop of the thread, I got some pictures (sorry for the size, & crappy quality (had a crappy phone back then)...

The subwoofer:

What I saw after I took the front seats out:

I drove around for a few days with no interior, because weight reduction bro, because racecar, its a lot louder (road noise) with no interior. didn't feel significant difference in speed but you could definitely feel the lack of weight.

Interior back in:

My little sisters don't even try to keep my car clean, but amps are out and there is now more leg room:

Re: 2001 SH all new stereo wiring

GOOD NEWS:
-So just like i thought it was just a blown fuse that cause the no power to headunit & interior lights.

Bad news:
-Car did not pass inspection looks like I will actually have to clean EGR ports this weekend.

Do y'all think this is actually a good spot (pic down below), so if I took a multi-meter and connected to positive (power wire from battery) & the grounding spot from the pic I should get 12V right? I located ground on the same metal piece as the strut tower.

I am looking for an amp ($100-$300) to power: 1 headunit, 1 pair of component, 1 pair coaxil, and maybe I might put my sub back in , just because it enhances the experience. So I will need a 4-channel & mono-amp or a 5-channel amp. Currently everything in my car is Pioneer, anybody have any recommendations on 5-channel amp, I was looking at these:

GM-D9605 - NEW! - Class D 5-Channel Amplifier with Wired Bass Boost Remote | Pioneer Electronics USA

http://www.amazon.com/NVX-JAD900-5-R...1%2Cp_89%3ANVX

http://www.amazon.com/PIONEER-GM-D96...2%3A1248879011

Amazon.com : Rockford Fosgate Prime R600X5 600W RMS 5-Channel Car Amplifier + Amp Kit + RCA's : Car Electronics

Re: 2001 SH all new stereo wiring

Set your volt meter to 20 ohms and do the test u spoke of.. What u are looking for is resistance, it will determine the quality of your ground.. The meter will have an internal resistance, first verify the value. Then test across your connections as u said. Anything over 2ohms is high and u would have to redo the ground.

First decide the speakers u like, then decide on the amp. Depending on output u may need an extra capacitor. But u should be OK till about 800w anything more and your alternator and ignition system can suffer.
I'm pushing about 1500 in my KIA with 2 12's and Hertz co-axes.
My lights dim, electrical suffers and car feels sluggish when I go to 75% and above..

Resistance suffers when using CCA wire, of u want it good good, get ofc it's pure copper, pricey but incurs less voltage drop

Thanks man, I already have headunit & speakers, I don't want to get a capacitor at the moment so I guess any amp rated under 800w will suffice.

Re: 2001 SH all new stereo wiring

But if I wanted a 5-channel Pioneer
This is the only one they make:
http://www.amazon.com/PIONEER-GM-D96...2%3A1248879011

But its max power is 2000watts. If I don't have it cranked up, I should be fine right?

I see you want to stick with pioneer.. U will have to have your gains set properly. Then u won't blow stuff. Ya I personally hate caps, of u need juice a beefy alternator is the only way

Re: 2001 SH all new stereo wiring

Otherwise I have to get two separate amps, 1 4-channel & 1 Mono. Thoughts? cost will nearly be around the same...That was the setup the PO had. But PO's amps no longer working, hence the quest for new ones.

It's good either way honestly, set the sun gain low so u don't blow it and later u can upgrade the sub, if u don't feel enough booms

http://www.amazon.com/Alpine-MRV-V50.../dp/B00XUZCXIE

VS

http://www.amazon.com/PIONEER-GM-D96...2%3A1248879011

Thoughts? Heard better things about the alpine, & to me it seems like the better option because of the size & build quality.

Re: 2001 SH all new stereo wiring

The Alpine would be slightly under powering the sub which in most cases is bad cause the amp has to work hard. but still good and leaves room to expand later (perfect for a first amp).. How much bass do u expect? 150rms is ok, but not crazy

But the Pioneer is on sale from like 550 down to 230... thats 10 cents per watt, eww...

I don't need nothing crazy, just some oomph to the experience.
That Pioneer amp is just 2 months old, new model just came out in nov 2015.

What amp (specifically) would you recommend for my setup?

Re: 2001 SH all new stereo wiring

If those are RMS values shown on the Alpine I would take it. 40w is kinda low for speakers in doors but if it's RMS it's OK. I don't really like that pioneer lol it looks like their trying to get rid of it even if they take a loss.. And it shows max values I think. I'm hoping the Alpine shows RMS on the specs. You can always crank it past that for a song or 2 but not for like half an hour.. I'd go with the Alpine and have the gains set properly, unless u can do that yourself. There is a formula

Re: 2001 SH all new stereo wiring

I need some help with remote wire setup.
from the factory female stereo connector I need to run remote wire to sound processor and two amps. I am not using a head unit. Where else could I get a remote turn on lead supply?

Re: 2001 SH all new stereo wiring

If u hardwire it to your positive batt lead or at the fuse panel under the dash it will be on 24/7, wire it to your ignition, so it comes on when u turn the key, not 24/7.

Re: 2001 SH all new stereo wiring

I haven't messed with any of my ignition wiring yet. My car came with some kind of sketchy aftermarket alarm and the person who installed it didn't do a very good job. The security system works but the installation is very messy and not organized. I was wondering if I could run 2 remote turn on leads from my car battery to 2 switches inside cabin and then to the 2 amps. That way I can manually switch it.

OR

Could I run all 3 (sound processor, & 2 amps) from 1 remote turn on lead?

Re: 2001 SH all new stereo wiring

Hey guys my car audio is still not complete.
Just ordered this:
Crunch PDX-1000.4 1000W Max PDX Series Bridgeable 4-Channel Class A/B Car Amplifier

I have an 8awg power wire with fuse from the battery and a 8awg grounded to the strut tower. I am using a sound equalizer with my phone, so there is no turn on lead/remote wire from a headunit since there is no headunit.

However my equilizer turns on and off with the ignition.

I ordered a new budget amp 3 other old amps did not turn on successfully they went into protect.

My lude has a sketchy aftermarket alarm/remote entry so I do not want to tap into ignition switch wire for remote.

I was wondering if I could use a remote turn on from the Honda acoustic feedback system in the trunk? I do not have a test light or a multi-meter to test it. Just wondering if anyone knew.
