4th gen vtec component speakers for dash/door?

as best I can tell aftermarket component speakers require an external crossover. has anyone with the factory installed dash tweeters upgraded to a component speaker set and where did you install the crossover?

thanks!

Re: 4th gen vtec component speakers for dash/door?

I put my crossovers underneath the radio. There's a metal plate above the shift cables, and they just sit on top of them. Because of the wiring I used, it's a tight fit, but it works. I ran new wires to the tweeters, and used the factory wiring for the woofers. Kinda a no-no, but it works for me, even with an amp capable of putting 140w RMS to each channel. I'm sure it will damage the wires some day, and may burn the car down in the process, but I'll rewire it when I buy a house and tear the car apart to do a fresh build.

When I had my 4th gen, I actually put my crossovers inside the door panels.
If you take yours off, you will see the spot I am talking about. Perfect location IMHO
for the mounting of them.

Just an FYI, these are the components I used
