same here. the viper 1002 alarm looks really nice to me. its about 115-135 on amazon if i remember correctly, and i believe you can add more sensors. look into field detection and tilt sensors as well.

Re: Best alarm system???

Any DEI brand is going to work well for our cars. Just be sure to get one with multiple Channels. Are you looking for remote start as well?

I went with Viper because the price was right. You might also want to look at Clifford- heard they are pretty reliable and come with many features and extra channels.
I wish I would have went with an interactive alarm, aka: a unit that has two way communication with the Key Fob. This way I dont have to be within ear shot of the siren to know someone is tampering with Mah baby. I may upgrade after I get the rest of my audio system installed.

Just remember, Expect to pay the purchase price for installation. This is a safe bet when budgeting for an alarm.

I have a viper alarm w/ a key fob, two way, blah blah blah. it's about 5 years old now so I was curious about what's out now. I'm looking for my buddy's car as my alarm is still great.
thank you.

Re: Best alarm system???

Viper 100%. I have an older 2-way remote start alarm from them, have yet to have a problem. If you want the 2-way remote start alarm with potential to upgrade I would very very highly recommend the Viper 5901.

I sell/install them weekly at my shop amazing product lifetime warranty.

You may wanna back the sensitivity down. Its kinda like the boy who cried wolf. When you hear it go off all the time you get numb to it. When someone breaks in you won't think anything of it.

Not a lot has advanced in the last few years. The only thing I could think of is cell integration. DEI and Compustar have smartphone based apps. The DEI SmartStart is more basic. Start, lock, unlock receive a text when alarm goes off. The Compustar Drone is more advanced and actually gives you realtime GPS tracking. Both have yearly service fees and both are reasonable <$100 per year.

Your system may be too old to work with the smart start but the drone will integrate with anything. Including stock. Its quite a versitile piece.

Re: Best alarm system???

Remember, an alarm is only as good as the installer, and kill switches are your friend. It not hard for a theif to find the alarm brain, disconnect it, and jump a couple of wires and bypass it.

We've done a couple. Pretty cool deal because unlike the SmartStart it can be used standalone for certain things, is not country specific. Were 80 miles from Canada so we have to have the something that works in either. We thought we had issues with it on one but it turned out to he the SmartkeyStarter it was piggybacked on in a brand new Benz diesel.

Clifford 330.3x 2-way. Under 2 bills.
Had it twice already. Love it. Low key.

Re: Best alarm system???

I have the Viper 5904 in my 5th gen with a tilt sensor and glass sensor, Viper has for the most part a bullet proof alarm system. I would stay away from Autopage and all those flea market alarms. But its true the alarm is only as good as the installation at the end of the day
