Stock Upgrade #1 - (2) 10 inch Alpine Type Rs or (1) 10 inch Type X

Ok, I'm not a bass head, I want high quality sounding trance/techno/electronic music. Due to dollars, I need to use the stock components but am getting a NEW SET OF SUBS.

Are (2) 10" Type Rs going to produce better sounding music than (1) 10" Type X, assuming I'm powering them with an Alpine M-1000 Amp? Also, will the M-1000 Amp work with two 4-ohm subs or two 2-ohm subs? I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on Amazon and need to get the right subs.

The Type X is nearly triple the price of one Type R on Amazon.com. It must be as good as two of them, right?

Thanks people.

Ryan

I listen to the same type of music you are talking about, and I am using 2 Type R 10s. Well worth it. It is nothing ground shaking, and very clean. The ones I am using are the dual voice coil 4ohm wired in parrallel giving me a 2ohm load. So you would be better off using the 2 4ohms if you plan on using one amp then bridge it to run 2 subs.

Also I am using a Alpine 300 watt mono amp for each sub.

If you notice there are three amps there.
2 Mono amps for the subs
1 four channel for the Type R components and rears.

Hope that helps

WOW! That is a really clean set-up. What 300 AMP are you running? The 10 inch Type Rs can take 500 watts RMS, so you are not running yours to their highest potential, and they still are hitting hard? Could I run 500 watts RMS to them or could that possible damage them?

A little more detail on your system is appreciated. I really like those enclosures for the subs. Maximizes trunk space.

Thanks.

True I am not putting the full 500rms to the subs, yes it hits pretty hard, and I have the sub woofer volume turned up to +1 out of a total of +15. I like the subtle yet not ground pounding bass it provides. I have turned it up to +10 and it was beyond what I wanted.

Well here is the the short version....
All audio gear is Alpine...
Alpine CDA-9831 CD/MP3

6.5 Type R components (custom molded in doors)
Type R 6x9 rear
Alpine 12 Disc CD Changer.
Alpine KCA-410C

(Talk about versatile with the KCA-410C Versatile-Link source adapter you can add up to two pieces of Alpine gear and gain two auxiliary inputs. That means You can access four separate sources (satellite radio, MP3 player, Bluetooth phone, etc.) through one Alpine in-dash stereo, potentially building any kind of stereo system you want.)
MRD-M300 Mono Amp (300 watts at 2ohm) two of them
MRV-F340 4 channel amp (55 x 4)

Non Alpine gear...
XM Commander XM radio tuner.
Mobile TV 6.7" Video Monitor (custom molded in dash)
Mobile DVD mounted in glovebox.
Sony PS2 mounted under the amps (see pic above)

Hope that answered your question.
And thanks for the compliment.
