I have a 97 prelude and I've been looking for a while on how to wire up my iPod to play in my car. I'm sick of CD's and them getting scratched. Anyone have any tips or DIY's?

Re: iPod compatibility?
Ok I did the Vehicle Fit Guide for these. Would something like this work?
Kenwood - 50W x 4 MOSFET Apple® iPod®/Satellite/HD Radio-Ready In-Dash CD Deck - KDC-MP342U |

Re: iPod compatibility?

Re: iPod compatibility?
I'm way new to this so would you mind explaining the whole "cable that hooks into the deck" thing? And sorry about posting in the wrong section.

Re: iPod compatibility?
its cool ur new so im not gonna yell at ya.
i know for my sisters pioneer deck that she recently got, she just hooks her USB cable that she uses to connect to the computer to the usb port on the cd player. i also have a friend that uses a regular audio cable (both male ends) and hooks it straight into the aux input.

Re: iPod compatibility?
So are there any technical installation things I'll have to do? Sound to me like I just go buy the in-dash and plug it into my... current CD system? Then to connect my ipod I can just use the aux input?

Alpine uses a cord/hook up called Ai Net -- it is the data port that allows you to control ALL Functions of the i-Pod without touching the ipod itself. Alpine Kenwood iPod connectors data base I-POD PIONEER CABLE ADAPTOR ADAPTER AUX CHARGER For use with units that have CD Changers or are iPod ready No matter what aftermarket deck you use, tell the installer/Salesman to sale you the adaptor cord. I dont use Apple products, but don't all iPods have that long, thin data port on the bottom? Now, if you are trying to use a stock radio, an FM modulator would be the quickest way to get your iPod to play on your "system."

Re: iPod compatibility?
If u have a stock cd player with a cassette player u can just go buy one of those adapter things. Its a cassette that goes into the cassette player and it has a lil chord that u can plug into ur ipod. Thats what I've been using and u dont have 2 buy a new cd player

Re: iPod compatibility?
also one place you should check out if your new to it is www.Crutchfield.com What Fits My Car
Nice thing about buying stereo stuff from them is they will send you a step by step install guide for that part, for you specific car. also if your unsure about something, or which part would be best for exactly your needs, you can call them and they'll help ya out. i know when i first started getting into doing car stereo's they were a big help for me. btw i have the Pioneer Premier DEH-480MP with the ipod connect kit. and i love it! nice thing about it too, is it didnt cost much. (i think i payed like 200 for the deck and like 40 for the whole ipod kit(bought this like 3years ago)

Re: iPod compatibility?
@ Ph3AR,
1.Check whether your Car Audio has AUX. 2 .Remove your Car Audio from your car. 3. Stereo 2 mono out pin 4. Audio cables. 5. Connect your Stereo 2 mono pin. 6. Connect your Audio Cable. 7. Connect your Ipod. 8. Now take a test drive.

Type the name and model number of your radio into a google search and read up on the features it came with if it has a AUX input then yes you can hook it up. Even better if your radio came with CD changer control, sometimes you can get a cable that not only plays your ipod but charges it too. Make sure though that it has the latest technology as I have the iphone 3G now and the cable I got does not support the charging of the iPhone 3G. But now that cable is available I'm not paying another $50 to $60 just so it will charge plus I am about to sell my radio and cable soon.

Re: iPod compatibility?
or better yet, just go into like car toys or best buy, and tell them what your looking for, play with a couple of the decks, i'd bring your ipod, hook it up, and see which one you like from there.
main reason i say to do that, is because, like, alpines are really nice, but me personally i dont like them. i like how the pioneers are how they are set up better. nothing against alpine at all, just preference.

Re: iPod compatibility?
Nick, that's actually an iPod issue. They went to a different charging system. Your problem can be fixed with an adapter. They have a couple different styles. 1 is a small square deal that has the proper charging. So you end up with this huge end. The other is an extension cable that does the job. Much better in my book. You can tape up the connection and stash it behind the dash. A part # for one of those is Peripheral IS710. They are about 30 bones.

Re: iPod compatibility?
if your a simple man, like me, just get the USA SPEC iPod adapter, i heard it's the best adapter out there, no need to buy a new head unit just plug into the back of ur stock radio. also, if u mess with ur stock radio and put in a new one, your AFBS will b ****ed up and not work properly, so thats why i recommend keeping your stock

Re: iPod compatibility?
my friend has an alpine deck and i hate it(i played with it a lot and i just don't like all the overly complicated settings) but to each his own he loves it, i have a sony deck but its an older one which doesn't have the direct male to male cable connection for the ipod, and i have an ipod touch so instead of shelling out a ton of money i went to radio shack and bought the generic red and white to audio headphone cable for less than $15 dollars, the same cable that is marketed for apple is like anywhere from $35 to $60 dollars. I connected it from the back of the cd deck and tucked it neatly under the middle console to reduce clutter.simple and cheap......best way to go.......sometimes,lol.....hope this helps.
