Icon5 Stupid tranny question.

While I don't have the time/know-how/$ to do this, how much of a PIA would it be to swap a Auto tranny for a Manual? I'm sure it would include a ****load of aggravation, and maybe some welding skills(?), but I was curious. And bored.

well, what year do you have?

its pretty tedious and painstaking for a 4th gen (5G's should be pretty simliar). not HARD, just.... tedious. i helped with ray's (bboixtc) tranny swap and there's so many small things that are just a PITA, like the brake and clutch assembly, the hard clutch lines, and shifter cables, etc....
no welding needed, it was all a direct bolt-on, but i think he said it took a total of one month from beginning to end, but only working on it during the weekends cuz mostly all of us were busy with school during the week.

you have a 3rd gen right? easiest thing you could do is buy a donor car and pull the motor and tranny out of both of them and transfer everything over including ecu and wireing, then just put the motor that is in better condition in, like neck said its not hard work it's just tedious

you would probally come up cheaper buying a donor car too rather trying to buy everything piece by piece, then you get spare parts too witch is always a plus then you can just scrap the metal when your're done with it!

Yup 3 gen. I was just woundering! I had heard of people doing it, and I figured it was a PIA, but I was still curious. I would like to keep my '91 and eventually (years from now), get a 5th gen. I would make sure it was a manual! :D
