new to prelude. need info

my friend is looking at a 2000 and 2001 prelude sh. i'm pretty knowledgable with cars that i like, no offense to you guys, but i know nothing about the prelude in terms of problems that you have to look out for and what to look for when purchasing one. both cars have 90k miles on them. i'm going to the 2 dealerships with him this weekend to look at them and since he knows nothing about cars i'm all he's got, lol. any problems with the engines at high miles, overheating, tranny problems, rotting in areas, etc. thanks for the help in advance.

it's good that your friend is looking to get a type SH. That's the highest trim level for the US Prelude.

There aren't many problems that are well known for the 5th generation Prelude other than being equipped with a faulty automatic-tiptronic transmission...but the Type SH only comes in manual so no worries there.

and last tip, it's a "Honda."

Anyone can ruin the engine/tranny in any car :( , but the ludes are pretty good as far as longevity and durability. Look them over, drive them, and make sure to buy a manual :)

I've heard the SH (ATTS) is best if you don't plan on putting too much extra power to the wheels, but with basic bolt on mods it should be great thing to have.

I personally like the 4th generation ludes and my m2b4 LSD.

thanks for the info, i guess it helps out a little. so there aren't any problems these cars famous for having, like a 3000gt and its syncros or a 300zx it's bad gas lines?
and by the way 93-LUDE-SI, i strongly recomend getting one. my twin turbo is a 1990, just hit 33,000 miles, 350hp at stock boost and will be raised to 15psi this weekend and putting my test pipes back on will bring me back up to 420hp. great car but it's an expensive pain in the ass to maintain, lol, and it seems like the damn engine has to be pulled for everything cuz there's just no room to work in there. if you want one that badly i can sell it to you when these damn gtr's hurry their asses up and get to my nissan dealer

A few thing i have hear on hear a few time wear not mechanical water in the trunk gas needle being slow when you fill it up sunroof jerking when opening stuff like that. Mr made a good point If he's going for more power i would get a base and put in a LSD. If it will be bolts on a SH will be the best.
