What's the deal with DC headers?

I'm thinking about buying a used DC header on ebay. I've read plenty of places that said this header won't give any real gains, but I've also seen in a lot of places that people are using these and suggest them. So what's up with these, I want to buy a header but not one that I'm going to be wasting my money on. So is a DC header a good buy? I have a 4th gen completely stock right now.

What motor do you have in your car... For H22s the DC is a stock replacement other than the fact that it is mandrel bent and stainless steel. You are paying for the name, and the looks... The improvement over stock is marginal at best. Flows nearly identical.

For the H23s I believe the DC is known to make decent gains.

Yes, H23. And it's the rare green, post pics when you can. We've got a couple of SEs on here, but all are the champagn colour.

Get a new Megan for about $160. It's the same thing as DC, but cheaper. You'll make gains on an H23 with the header but you won't on an H22.

Really?
I got mine for $160 when I had my 4g, which still isn't bad.
Honestly, I think those cheap eBay headers are the same thing too, just without a name. Tim has one that he got from me and it's working out pretty well for him.
I got my header on the smae day I put my exhaust and intake on my 4g so I'm not sure how much the header itself helped but I do know it was a hella lot more torquey. Just those 3 mods gained me .8 second faster in the 1/4. Prolly woulda been better if I wasn't getting 2.4 60' times.

Question...so the Megan is just as good as DC's?

What about quality? do they rust out or go bad faster or are they all basically the same as far as material.

I don't mind buying knock off brands of performance is the same or better, but I dont want something that's gonna melt down or rust on my or something. You know?

That's a negative on CARB Kumar. I guess they didn't pay up to get it legalized out there. You could do like Imma do, and we'ld the pieces off the top of your stock header and put your header cover on it and nobody will ever know.

So if DC is the bottom of the barrel for the H22, what would be considered the best or better?

Only way to see REAL gains on the H22 n/a is to buy a custom header... and those are to the tune of about 1000 bucks give or take a little bit...

they're mandral bend and flow marginaly better, but if its worth over 3 bills..to see very little gain over a megan $150 header, then what ever floats your boat

Do you have an H22 or an H23???

Because if you have an H22, then no, they are not better than stock (not 300+ bucks worth at least)... Flow them next to eachother, dyno them next to eachother, and you will see that any improvements are marginal at best...

The only advantage is that they are prettier, and they are mandrel bent vs. crush bent on the OEM... The design is otherwise damn near identical.

Megans are the same thing but at about half the cost of the DC's, so if you are gonna pay for the pretty factor and the mandrel bending, Megan is the way to go...

The only way to see any real improvements at all with Megans/DC's is to do the collector mod... and even that isn't much of an improvement...

We've said it before, and I'll say it for all of us again... if you want to make any type of real dyno proven power from a header on an N/A h22... it's gotta be custom.

Now... with all that said... does that mean that you shouldn't buy any aftermarket headers other than custom ones that cost you upwards of a grand? No... not at all, just be informed that most of the aftermarket headers out there for the H22 are OEM specifications... so don't pay an arm and a leg for DC when you can get something like Megan which is identical for half the cost... And if you want to see a little bit of power out of them, find someone who welds, and chop off the restrictive 2" collector, and replace it with a 2.25-2.5" collector... It may not make a huge difference, but it's better than nothing.,
