Had my car taken into the honda dealership, cause the engine shut down oneday. They inspected it and and i sliped the timing belt on it.You know what that means YUP valves are bent. The cost to repair it is $2450.00. The reason I took it to the dealership is because they know what the hell there doin its a honda place. So if you were in my position would you get it fix or toss it

yea i say toss it. a friend of mine had that same problem w/ his jettta and the dealer quoted $2900. He ended up paying it but he could have gotten the GTI motor w/ his current turbo for less than that.

I dont have any buddies or tools to help drop it in n the engine is a 2.3. the other thing is I dont have hte credit to buy a used car. the thing i did consider is if it is getting fixed im gettin a warrenty on what they do which is good. if i do the work i cant warenty it. lots of choices lots. one thing i know is if i do this the next step is gettin all that rust cut off and repainting it wow lots of $$$$. at least it will be like a brand new car though when im done. if i do it all

i say see if you can order a new motor online (i hear japan direct has decent prices, someone please verify)and just pay a local shop to install it. the charges will be hourly either way but I KNOW the dealer charges way more for their hourly labor. so you would end up getting a newer, better motor at hopefully a cheaper (worst case same) price; the only drawback is having to wait for shipping and finding the parts needed to adapt for the swap.

most of the time it is just miles really the belts are made just to hold up for so many miles and it starts to stretch and the teeth get soft and worn

go ahead and get a different motor for it, you'll probally come out cheaper and have a motor that has less miles on the bottom end... which means less chance of something else happening like a spun bearing later on down the road!

Well to late thinkin the dealer scamed me 3200 bucks for a new valve job they told me the cheapest engine they found was for 3100 bucks with high milage BS so the heads are getten sent out and new valves in it. SO heres the ? of the century can anything else go wrong with thing with new valves new TB new water pump new oil pump new clutch new radiator and i think thats it what about the pistons the cams the block the rockers i think it has them. IM gettin this thing completely redun rust cut off and painted and no messin around. SO can anything else go frekin wrong with polished heads and new valves.

I had this same problem. Mine wasn't quite that bad, a little over a $1000. I have been kicking myself ever since from not doing an h22 swap right then and there. I was kinda of in a hurry to get it fixed bc of work and school. Honda dealership will get you every time...your right, at least they know what their doing.

something can always go wrong. But it's the care and attention that helps prevent these things. If you spend enough time with your car you'll know when something is acting weird or out of whack, and will be able to prevent major damage.

Dude... you got taken...

No offense, but why did you agree to that when so many people on here straight up told you how much cheaper it woul dhave been to do it the other way? They straight up and down ROBBED you. Please don't pay 3200 dollars for a valve job... You can buy a Type S motor (complete block + head) + tranny for that much.

1)I got quoted at a local hot rod shop for like 400 bucks for a 3 angle valve job, hot decking, time on the flow bench, and crack analysis if I supplied new valves, guides, springs, and retainers...

2)New throttlebody is COMPLETELY unnecessary.... slipping your timing belt does nothing to your throttlebody... even if it was old and worn it can normally be taken care of with a good cleaning and a new 40 dollars TPS.

3)You're correct, if you buy a new head it will come with new cams and rockers. Pistons are not in the head, so no you won't be getting new pistons along with a new head.

4)Unless your radiator needs replacing, that is also unnecessary as a snapped timing belt doesn't affect that either... same thing with the clutch.

Look at these prices for complete motors:

Type S Motor + LSD transmission $3299

JDM H22A $1899 and if you want the LSD add $300

Both of those motors come with
- Hydraulic Tranny
- ECU
- Alternator
- Starter
- Clutch
- Flywheel
- Intake Manifold
- Exhaust Manifold
- Fuel Rail
- Injectors
- Distributor
- Engine Harness
- Comes With All Sensors Needed

They also only have 35,000 miles on them average, and come with a 100% start up guarantee ...

I don't mean to make you feel bad or anything bro, but I really don't understand why you didn't just listen to us, especially when you said from the very first post that you knew they were scamming you... =/

Even if you bought the $1899 JDM motor, added the LSD transmission for another 300, paid for shipping, and then paid a local shop to install it all, it would probably only come out to around the 3200 dollars that honda is charging you for a STOCK valve job. You could get a performance valve job for 800 bucks that includes titanium springs, retainers, valves, seats, etc..

And all of those prices I just quoted are for the H22...

Here's what's REALLY gonna burn your ass...

H23 long block... $850 + shipping
Long blocks also average 35,000 miles and come with a 100% start up warranty.

Oh well, you live, you learn.

Point well taken Badmofo I agree with you that I bent over n the dealer said drop your pants. But I also thought about havin a local shop put in a motor but what if they put it in n it didnt turn over now im payin for the labor to take it out and put another new one in. But at least the car is like brand new and now all i have to do is get some rust cut off and get it painted. Everyone join me in singing the ludydude96 is a dumb ass song . lmao
