Original Red Key?

ok.. so i have one key and want to make another for my remote start.. and what the heck might as well have a back up right?? i've been lucky and never lost my keys in the past but i'm sure that will run out eventually.

So i go to the honda dealership and they tell me I need to have the original red key that the car came with.. i'm the third owner of the car so that might be a bit difficult. is there any way around this other than what the dude told me?? his option was to pay $350 for a new computer and new key..

there has to be another way to make a copy of my key or get the code off of my key... 97 prelude..

any help??

When you say "red key" are you meaning the keyless entry?

If you are I saw an add on Craig’s list where a guy had a bunch of diff keys with keyless for sale including a prelude one and all you have to do is get them programmed.
I am not sure if this is what you mean, but if so I can find you the link.

What? You dont need the red key (original, irreplaceable master key) Most people dont have them. I have a 97 as well and they can progam it off the transponder code off of the key you bring in. My buddy worked at Honda and for a couple vehicles he did my keys I didnt even buy from him. You dont even need to use the vehicle to program it as you do with Ford, Chry, and Chev PK+ keys. Hit up a different guy in service if you can.
