5th gen auto tranny 2nd gear slips

Hey everybody. I was looking into this 97 prelude to buy. I am an avid honda guy, with a 94 civic & a 99 integra about to be pushing 400HP. But I've always wanted a prelude. This one i found is going for 5 grand, books around 8. The only problem i noticed is that 2nd & 3rd gear slip when it shifts into them. Almost like a manual tranny that u ride the clutch when u shift. My question is how serious a problem is it? Could it be as simple as it needs a new torque converter? or how serious could it be? THX in advance

The autos in the early ones are notoriously bad, so it's possible that it is quite serious. But having said that I have heard of the converters going on them, so I spose that's possible.

Ill tell u ahead of time. My prelude was a auto at one point. The auto tranny blew twice on me. After the second time i swaped it to a 5 speed. That auto tranny aint cheap and they blew all the time. I rather come up with another 1grand and swap it to a manual. Like i did.
