A few questions!

Hey guys, I am doing a tune up before the summer starts (will be doing everything myself). Now what I wanted to ask was, when you change the oil does your idle go to about 1500 in the beginning and then after a while its been on, go back down to normal?

I noticed this thing before as well, but never paid attention to it.

Was also wondering, if doing the throttle body coolant bypass mod, or blocking off the fast idle valve will help with anything? Also would cleaning the IAC make that much of a difference?

Thanks for the help.

On a side note, the oil in my car was really dirty, so I decided to do my oil change this way:

1. Pour in engine flush with old oil.
2. Empty, then pour in new cheap oil ($10), but pour in about 1 quart more than needed.
3. Empty and pour in brand new synthetic oil.

Now after doing the flush, should I still look into doing a cleanse with seafoam, as I hear so many good things about it, or should I just forget about it?

you did change ur filter to right? Also did you run ur engine for a lil bit with the engine flush? I would do the seafoam but u got to get new oil and all but
seafoam is a duple edge sword. I see ppl use it and then thear car ran worse then b/4 the reason is that it gets it too clean more so in high millage engines. with ur 98 i wouldn't worry to much about it just kinda a thought plus you get a cool smoke screen for a lil bit lol

LOL cool, actually I didn't change my oil filter yet, because I am running the cheap oil right now, I will change the filter once I put in the synthetic (got myself a K&N oil filter for $10, wanted to see how it works). Also, my car only has 220 000 KM, so about 130 000 Miles. So, I don't think the seafoam should have any negative effects. But your input would be good.

Concerning your high idle speed...when you first start the car, the engine is cold...and the "electric choke", of sorts, is on, and the engine is running really rich to get the temp to rise to normal. Once the engine heats up to operating temp, the idle will go down...IF it doesn't, you've gotten a bigger issue...

I've also heard that the coolant bypass does next to nothing...so, just...FIY.

But good luck anyways dude.

No problems, thanks for the help. I've decided instead of doing all those little mods which are probably not even worth the trouble for me, to go ahead and seafoam my car. I just picked up a couple of cans, and will do it either today or tomorrow. Thanks for the input.

Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

Here's the story:

Me and a friend both get off work around the same time, so he came over to my house, and we decided to go grab something to eat. So since my friend didn't feel like driving, and since my car is better, we took mine. At 10:30PM we were having no luck finding any good place to eat (don't like fast food). So we finally found a good restaurant, and then we order the food. Takes about 15 minutes, and then we are off to go find a place to eat. On my way there, I catch an unmarked cruiser pulling up behind me, suddenly he puts the lights on. We are like ****, wtf did we do (we weren't speeding or doing anything stupid). The cops came up askes us what we were doing, and took all my information. He tells me that my license has been suspended as of today, so I ask him, how the hell that could be possible, because I never got a notice or anything. He tells me it happens, and because of this he wasn't going to give me the $5000 ticket, and wrote me a warning on the spot, stating I have been warned of my suspension. Now my friend, thankfully knows how to drive a stick, and the cops let us go. If my friend wasn't there, the car would have gotten towed and impounded for sure. So the cops took my license, had to go to court to pay the fee which had now become $80, and will have to wait 4 business days, and then go to the ministry, and pay another $150 to get my license reinstated.

All this for a stupid $40 fine.
