i have 2.5" piping with a "baffler", not a resonator, no cat., and ending with a stock-like muffler. It sounds mellow and deep, and it's somewhat quiet until you get on it.

i have a shop by my house that does custom performance exhaust. he said he would charge me 125 for the cat back, all mandrel bent pipe. i already have a muffler but i was gonna run 2 1/4" pipe.

i just dont really want to loose the resonator cuz then the sound will get raspy.

heres his site and some of his work. http://www.dlordcustom.com/gallery.htm

I'm in the process of putting together a custom exhaust as well: from the header back it goes carsound high-flow cat, Vibrant Ultra Quiet resonator to an ES Tuning Systems straight-through muffler. All 2.5in. I'm trying to make this setup relatively quiet but I'm keeping it straight-through since it's for a supercahrger build. If you dont get a resonator then the exhaust will be buzzy, and even more so if you ditch the cat for a test pipe. I had a non-resonated exhaust with the stock cat and it was kinda buzzy when it was cold but not so much once warmed up; only around 3500-4500rpms. I highly recommend getting a resonator for your setup. Magnaflow and Vibrant make good resonators, and the longer they are the more they will reduce the noise.

Like ass. Don't do it.
Magnaflow makes some. I think www.kteller.com has some too.

I've done many exhaust combos, and so far I'm really liking my 2.25" pipe with a 20" resonator. I've done a 12", which helped a lot vs not having one at all, but 20" just works so much better. Mine's a genuine Honda that I found in the trash at work

im half tempted to take apart a used greddy system for one of the newer ludes and then just making my own system out of it. i like having my exhaust deeper and kinda quite when just cruising or around town. ill find an example and post it if i can.
