Radar Detectors work....but even theyre a false sense of security. I've heard of jammers and phaser laser blazer tazer, and all kinda -asers, but yea...probably not a good idea...especially if they're only 75 clams.

I thought the jammers were illegal. Radar detectors are nice to have though, it's better than nothing.

As far as I'm concerned, it's simple. If you don't wanna get caught speeding then don't speed.

It's not that simple. The two variables there allow for many different options, one of which is wanting to speed as well as not getting caught. That's just the tip of the iceberg; I could get into all the people who do want to get caught.

Ok, go! (this is gonna be fun!:painkiller: )

Man we got some good smilies on here! :popworm:

The only 100% proven way to not get sprung speeding is to not speed. Radar jammers and detectors are nothing more than a false sence of security as Jesse said. They also make the arguement that you were speeding by accident a little hard to believe.

I heard of a case in the UK where somebody had a radar jammer fitted to their speeding car, and the signal was picked up by a low flying NATO jet. Which as a matter of course, automatically disarmed the jammer's frequency and armed missiles to destroy the jammer. Thankfully the pilots were able to disarm them.

While I agree that's an extreme case, it demonstrates a funny story.

I come from the city of Adelaide, Australia; the speed camera capital of the world. We have (on average) a set of traffic lights every 200metres, and most of them are equipped with red light running/speed detection cameras. And you won't hear too many people argue against them as loudly as I do. But the point is that they're there, they ping you, and that's all there is to it. Don't wanna get caught speeding? Then don't speed.

When I do speed, I also don't blame anybody else for my actions other than myself.

Whoa, easy there. I agree with you. I was just being stupid and playing devils advocate which I had hoped to make clear by the ridiculous nature of my last statement. I was, failingly, trying to bring up another point in an unobtrusive, joking manner. Unfortunately text doesn't do the best job of conveying emotion.

Back on topic: Radar detectors are like birth control. Not nearly as effective. But the only foolproof method of avoiding any unwanted arrivals is to not take part in the act in the first place. But it's not going to stop horndogs (if you will) nor will it stop speeders.

Even without the existence of preventative measures, the acts would still take place, the preventative measures just lower the chances of certain negative after-effects.

Now allow me to qualify that with this. Of course with the greater sense of security (stress sense) there will be a line of people more readily willing to take the risk now that they perceive that the risk has been reduced.

If you were going to speed anyway, which I assume is the case 80% of the time, you might as well have a slight bit of backup.

Then again, if and when you do get pulled over, don't expect a very understanding or friendly cop.

All in all. Everything has it's pros and cons that cannot be so definitively assessed by so many words as these. And considering that I barely know what I have been saying and that I really don't have a stance in this I don't know why I'm going on.

Anyway, the point of this was to say sorry. So....I didn't mean to get you riled up or offend you in any way. Sorry.

Don't worry about it **puts hand out**

I wasn't riled up, I thought we could have a fun argument. Good to see your opinion though.

Well I'll be more than happy to argue with you, but I must admit that I rarely have any personal opinions. I like to know, not speculate on hearsay. I do, however, love to point out viewpoints that people don't take into consideration. I try to look at things objectively, but it's impossible to be truly 100% objective.

The detectors are like condoms. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don't. They're particularly uneffective against a cop at night that's somewhat concealed and turns it on when you go by and don't have a chance to pick it up and slow down. That's why if I'm going to speed, I do 64 in the 55 so I at least have time to tap the brake, and get the benifit of a doubt by the cop when I notice him. Some will be dicks and get you anyway, but most of them won't waste their time if you weren't just killing it.

agreed

but if you do decide to buy a radar detector do some research and see what seems to work the best for most people.

Anything from Rocky Mountain Radar is pure CRAP. Google that stuff and you will for sure see what I mean.

My weapon of choice when on a budget is the Whistler Pro-78.

I dont condone speeding, but no one is perfect so it happens from time to time.

first of all check ur state laws to see if there illegal. 2nd of all it dont matter if u get a million dollar radar or 2 dollar radar, youll still gonna get caught. im not saying dat they wont work period but youll still get caught. cops use helicopters. they see a speeding lude they call in the next officer and say silver honda prelude. when the cop sees the prelude he pulls u over. and ur sitting there cursing ur radar

Here in Montucky they arent that sophisticated yet. They use a few planes on the highways but no helicoptors yet.

We dont even have any speed cameras, yet, they have been considering them for some time now but nothing as of yet.

Remember Montana? that state a few years back that had no speed limit on highways or interstates, only "reasonable and prudent"

Those were the days.

Georgia State Patrol above all is usually pretty fair. I've never had any problem with them when I was going 10 over or less. The only problem I had was when i came through a road block and they thought I was on some pills because my eyes were diluted, which I wasn't that night since my pain problem was doing good. The asshole still made me walk the line, stand and count, and I let him search the car since I didn't have anything and was just ready to get where I was going. It sucked cause the other 2 cops with him were pretty cool.
