So lately I've been thinking about if someone was to break in my lude. It's a scary thought. So my question is, to what extents do you go to keep your lude safe?
At school I always park my car in the spots that line the side of the road, instead of in the dense parking lot, also to prevent being doored, which has happened... At my house, my car is parked right by a motion sensor light. always locked. I don't show off my stuff to too many people. I've been thinking about getting a tint though, and wondering if I should get some special lug nuts where you need a key. I have 18s and I could be sittin on cinderblocks soon enough! Anyone's car been broken into anyhow? |

yeah def. get a wheel locks

How-To: Keep Your Car From Being Stolen
like Brian said, no matter how many security features you have, including a $10,000 alarm, if a thieve wants your car, they WILL take your car!! all you need is a flatbed truck. BTW, i wouldn't be talking about all the security features you have and exactly WHERE you park your car, on a PUBLIC forum. just something to think about ![]()

If you are worried about someone stealing your car, add a remote switch for the fuel pump to slow them down (no joyrides there). An alarm will help for break-ins and to help slow them down.
As said already, if someone really wants your car...it's just a matter of time. |

My neighbor has never had problems with theives, and I'm not too worried about it getting stolen, around my town it just seems to be punk kids just trying to steal peoples' systems.
But what about you guysssss? |
|

alarms don't mean jack when ur battery craps out

I dont think anyone has the testies to actually steal a car around here, but I do hear about radios getting stolen all the time. I just make it clear to everyone I tell about my car that I have a loaded 20 gauge and a nice bright street light out front.

Always turn your bass down 2 or 3 blocks if not more before you park. i usually won't turn my bass up untill i'm on a highway or something.

i dont think other people are gonna tell you exactly how we protect our cars either, due to security purposes; other than saying kill switches, alarm, wheel locks etc.

blinking light is good.. atleast it will thwart a dumbass that doesnt wanna mess with an alarm.. fuel cut off.. or multiple fuel cut off switches.. you could move the clutch engage switch if its MTX, youll have to hit it to start the car though. You could remove part of the spark plug wires or something when you leave the car.. a bunch of little things.
If I had like rims instead of my stock ones that I painted.. I'd have atleast one locking lug on each wheel. |
|
||||
also most alarms have a relay that disables the starter
|
|

do what one kid at my shcool did..got a racing stearing wheel and just took it with him there was no need to he was trying to be cool

well lets see, When i take my car into a shop for say an oil change or tires rotated, I give them only the car key, not the whole ring. unless absolutely necessary I do not give car shops my address. I pull my paperwork from the glove compartment.
I have the standard alarm, wheel locks and things that are easy to see. I do NOT leave CD's or anything valuable or pertaining to valuable things in view when I park for the day/night. I try to park by/under a light. I don't post pix of my car's license plate. I don't post on public forums my location, or telephone number. I also, turn down the stereo a cpl. blocks away on the way home at night. I use my brights when coming home if traffic allows on my street. I take notice of cars that I'm not fully used to in common apt. lot. [this takes time] There are battery backed up sirens that you can add (for the user above) The big thing that I have learned over the course of owning 4 cars over 20 years in over 5 states is that as everyone else says as well....they want it, they will take it, break it, or mess it up. Have the proper insurance IF you can afford it. The weirdest bad thing I have learned is since being in so cal is watch the dealerships/tire places/car washes. I had a car go into a dealership and I saw a very unique make/model/tricked out while I was there. While i was in the waiting room, I noticed that some dude was what I would consider be odd. I had my cell phone and planner sitting next to me. He sat down in the next closest chair to me and the corner table....So I was about to gather my stuff and go check on my car when the service guy tells me I'm ready 2 go.....i pay, forget my receipt, so now my car is up front and the dude come out and kinda casually looks at it, and leans against the wall. I figure he is waiting for his car, and having a smoke. i jump out the car, at the same time he comes kinda looking around the corner...I'm like ok he's weird. I get my receipt and roll out ( have dark tint ) I watch him in my review mirror, watch me drive away, turn, and drive past the dealership while he watches me. Now I had noticed this tricked out blingy car that was at this point idling roughly and loudly. Now I go home, have been living there for many many months. The next dusk I come home from the food store and guess what car with which driver is idling in the fire zone in front of MY apt.? yep Never saw him before, till the that day at the dealer. He stayed there for 45 minutes after I saw him. That was the 1st of 4 times this guy/car did this. One night he was there for 2 hours and 45 minutes IN the fire lane on a cell/pda/palm. My neighbor saw/caught him there for 45 minutes one afternoon. We had been having break ins so my neighbor(s) were already on the lookout anyways. So the third time I saw him again I called the cops. Gave them the story I just gave you guys, the dispatch said they had just called for a unit to roll by and look, the guy peels out, flips me off and come back the next day. I firmly believe he had a scanner to boot. This went on for about a week and a half...i would come home at random times and he would be in the same spot ( which is right next to a fire hydrant ) We got his plate during one of his pm visits and called the cops again, and we never saw him again. It could have been that he was trying to use someones internet as well? My thought is that he has a buddy at the dealer that is in with him, and I happen to be picked as their next target. Maybe since i had spent a lot of money at the dealership via cash & credit, they would take the car, break in to my place or hope that I online bank; of which I use cat6 and no wireless anyways b/c of being in a complex. So thats my tips, I am especially mindful of my g/f with these tips. there are scummy people everywhere. |

well in my lil town the crime rate aint to high and the rebels of the town i know most of them so they wouldnt touch my care...they got respect 4 me...but i got motion lights by my garage and i use muteki lug nuts 4 added protection...and i always lock it..i use to take off my faceplate so they wouldnt take my cd player

How do I keep it safe? Live in Podunk, Montana. Pretty simple. The neighborhood I live helps to. My 74 Chevy was unlocked with the windows down every night with all my audio gear in it and CDs and crap. Lude gets locked because that is a feature I put in with my manual trans remote start. When I get out of the car it stays running till the doors are shut then turns off and locks automatically. I would HATE to live in a high crime area. At my old house we only locked the doors at night and if we went out of town for a couple days. Yes, yes, I know, naive to the ways of the real world but im happy that way.

------- To prevent someone from getting in your car using a shaved key, shave off your door handles and truck hole.(this is going pretty far though) Put sensors in your car along with alarm, if your often close to your cars location then get an alarm with a pager. No matter what alarm you choose dont put stickers on your car identifying what alarm you have!! That makes it easier for the thief. And if you want to take it further, pull a plug every time you park your car so it wont start if someone gets inside. Or add a cutoff switch to your fuel line. And of coarse get a brake CLUB to prevent towing away thefts. Hide your valuables, dont bump your system anywhere near your home. Dont show off!! ![]() Still if someone wants in they will find a way, but this will be very hard for them and they might move on. |

In my complex we have break ins all the time. They have hit my mom, my b/f and me. I put my car in the garage, but they only allow one per unit and they are extra. I have had the garage messed with so many times they had to replace the door lock twice and it has a huge hole in part of the door where they tried to pry it open. I also have a master lock, one of the ones you can't cut through and just this past weekend had to replace it because they tried to take the key hole out of it.
![]() My friend that owns the local racing shop here puts in kill switches. I have talked about having him install one for me, of course he puts them in a different place each time and they can go pretty much anywhere. It is def an option once I get the funds for I will have done. Over all I never keep anything in my car of value. The first thing I do when I get home is put my car in the garage. Like it has been said if they want it bad enough they will try.

The part of MT. that my family's ranch is in is mostly the same. If people come to our place in the middle of the night and get by the dogs [which sometimes are miles from home due to chasing coyotes] they either want saddles from the barn or the whole car. It all revolves around the local bar. Either they ran outta gas or money and their whole goal is to get either to make it back to their home or the bar. So we have found our saddles at the bar hawked, and our ranch pickups at closet town @ the drunk's house....we have a couple times caught them walking up the driveway and had the opportunity to shoot over their heads to deter them from walking any further..... |

S&W 500's are badass...my dad shot a sw500 and a deagle .50 cal at the same time in each hand it was sweet....having guns around def help to deter crime

Being a nubie has some disadvantages but sometimes can be funny. As a nub, I didn't see that there was a linked picture until I hit the quote button, but the image that I got was that you keep your car safe with a colon (:). Somehow the thought of a colon protecting your car would only work in San Francisco.

And I thought I was paranoid!
Anyways... I have a good alarm, that has a tilt sensor, glass break and a microwave. So if the neighbours cat jumps onto the windscreen the alarm goes beserk. If I have the windows open and the system armed and a leaf blows inside the car, the alarm goes beserk. If somebody tries to jack the car up to pinch the wheels, the alarm will go beserk. But aside from that, it's also insured for fire/theft for a bit more than the replacement value of the car and all the mods. So if they take it, all they'll get are my CDs (most of the ones in the car are copied anyway) and I'll get a nice insurance cheque for more than it would cost to get another car to an equivalent level of modification.
