Timing Belt Problem??

I was driving down the road a couple of weeks ago when my engine suddenly died. My radio and all electrical stayed on and my engine sounds like it really wants to start but it just won't crank over. (I've heard you can bend valves trying to start your car with a snapped timing belt, is that true?)

I took my distributer cap off and found out that the rotor doesn't spin when I try to start my car. Since the rotor is spun via the timing belt (right?) doesn't this mean that my timing belt has expired? Any input helps. Thanks from Austin, TX!

Certainly possible. I was pulling apart my CRX, and the reason my distributor didn't spin was because my cam was broken in two :P

yes they are interference motors so it is very possible that you bent a valve if the motor was running at any more than an idle, and you could have broken your cam but highly unlikely, only way to know is to pull the vc off and check!

Thanks, I'm having a mechanic come and fix it today... actually he's supposed to be here any minute so I'll let ya'll know exactly what was up.

I'll have to post some pics of my baby too, she's a shiny red 4th gen. but there's some brand new damage to the front (leftside) bumper since my neighbor's friend doesn't know how to watch where he's going when backing out of a driveway... who hits a pretty parked prelude!? The travesty... at least he's paying for it though.

Are you sure thats all that happened??
Cuz most of the time when the t-belt snaps while your driving usually results in a coupla bent valves.
Is your mechanic gonna do a compression test to make sure you didnt do this?

Yep, I did bend valves. Probably just going to go for a new engine if a simple $200-$300 valve job doesn't fix it and I damaged pistons.

Or I may just start saving up for the new engine now and say good bye to my H23.

We'll see what everything looks like when I take my head off on monday and I'll let ya'll know.
