Has anyone debadged their Honda?

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone here has experience with debadging their honda?
I want to take off all the emblems on my prelude, but I was wondering how much this was going to cost, in terms of covering up the holes...

Some people have told me that if you want to paint over the holes, you would have to repaint the whole trunk/hood.
Has anyone actually done this? Or has anyone been able to just get a shop to repaint a small area nicely?

And how bad was the cost?

I just wanna know what I'm getting myself into before I do anything lol

Thanks!

well it wouldnt be hard to do it yourself. and if u want it to look perfect then u will have to have the whole hood and trunk painted which im guessing is about 200 each at maaco. so its up to you how much you want to spend me personally sence my paint isnt amazing i would just put some bondo in the holes from the back sand it down a lil after it drys and then just put either some sharpy or spray paint over the holes or just leave the holes they dont look that bad.

Dude. Please don't go to Maaco. Go to a reputable body ship if you're gonna resort to repainting anything.

i have debadged the whole of the back end of my car except the honda logos which i replaced for the red type r ones which look really nice coz i have a red lude..but to answer your question yes u have to get the trunk and hood repainted if you dont want the holes to show because they have little rubber bungs on them which hold the pins in place which look silly if you leave them, I had my whole car resprayed so it was ok.

The only thing I have left is door handles but no locks, emblems and even missing the ft bumper side marker lamps.

Anyways, it really depends on the shop. Best thing to do is go around check out their work and get some estimates. It really varries on your area as to the price.

I have to be the only guy that's gonna "defend" Maaco...

Maaco paint jobs... on a whole, for the most part... suck. The majority of Maaco paint jobs blow donkey dick... I'm not denying that. HOWEVER, please understand that first of all, Maacos are all individually owned and operated... In other words, my Maaco might happen to have a staff of wonderful workers working for them, while your Maaco has a bunch of kids straight out of auto-body school, and for the same price, my paint job is gonna be 10x nicer than yours. Also, I'd like to note that Maaco (just like any other body shop) has multiple stages/steps of paint jobs, and how much you are willing to pay is gonna be a huge factor in how your paint job is gonna turn out. They have everything from the 300 dollar single stage enamel spray with minimal prep work and no clear coat, all the way up to multi-thousand dollar paint jobs with urethane base coat and clear coat... You can definitely get a beautiful paint job from Maaco... as long as you find a GOOD one, and are willing to pay for the quality services...

However, when taking a car to Maaco... it's always a good idea to do your own prep work... that is their most notorious downfall... but overall, I have to say that I've got 2 different paint jobs on two different cars from Maaco, and they both looked good for what they were.

I got a 300 dollar hi gloss enamel paint job on my mom's 94 dodge shadow after a drunken neighbor sideswiped our car (it actually turned out really good, they put flakes in it and everything, slight orange peeling, but for 300 dollars, i wasn't complainint). Also, my little sister got a 500 dollar polyurethane paint job on her 1984 Chevrolet Celebrity (lol it's such a beater) with a sealer and everything that looks wonderful.... to be honest with you, both of those cars have nicer paint jobs than my current original factory paint job from Honda.... The celebrity especially looks REALLY good compaired to my faded ass Lude lol.

I would have no qualms about taking my lude to the same Maaco where I got the first two paint jobs and asking for the 2 stage base/clear coat paint job to regain my factory look...

HOWEVER, with all that being said... don't get me wrong, if you want some kind of custom candy paint job, or chameleon or some ****, DON'T go to Maaco... but for factory appearance.. I have no problems taking my car to the Maaco around the way.... but I would never take it to one that I had never been to/never heard any reviews of... cuz like I said, they definitely vary from place to place, owner to owner.

I had my emblems removed and had the rear bumber shaved, had the entire car repainted from SprayGlo in Duluth, GA. They did a wonderful job, cost me about $1500 about a 1 1/2 years ago. Now I wish I could just get it back up and running. Soon I hope!

Anyone know anywhere good near Va Beach that does good quality paint jobs? Obviously I cant get one anytime soon til I get a real job... but when I do I want it to be good, know what I mean? BTW I'd definately get more than a $300 one; my Wacom tablet cost that much for cryin out loud haha. Oh yeah do they paint the engine bay too, or just the outside?

But anyways I debadged mine. Finally debadged everything, Prelude logo, vtec sticker, H logos, everything. I like it.

Re: Has anyone debadged their Honda?

I'm goin to resurrect this because this seems to be the main debadging thread when I searched. Anyways I tried to remove the prelude lettering of my 5th ten today and now I'm stuck with this eyesore. It bothers me a little too much, anyone know how I can fix this? It's factory paint, so I'm wondering why it looks so different.

Re: Has anyone debadged their Honda?

i think it just fades away...i got my car without a badge and i had the same thing but now, i can barely see it...you could probably go to a NAPA paint store and give them the paint code for your car and spray over it? They will make a spray can for you, if you're well versed in painting...or take it to a shop...?

Have you tried buffing it?

Re: Has anyone debadged their Honda?

Ok hopefully it will fade into it. I don't really trust my spray painting skills, but I do plan to try buffing and waxing it this weekend since my buffer is halfway across Houston.

Did you get all the glue off? WD40 will cut away the sticky you may not see.

The 'word' prelude is typically darker due to sun fade.

WD won't hurt the paint will it? Clay bar doesn't sound like a bad idea either.

WD 40 won't hurt. But if you're concerned go to home depot and get some citrisol.

I used that but if I'm away from the citrisol I use pb or wd, whatever is handy.

Honestly I think citresol works better, but figured you probably have wd40 around your home.
