Header

I was readin some community posts on another thread and i read a lot that unless your header is custom on a 5th gen. than it's gonna hardly be an improvement from stock, and certainly not a necessity for improved car performance.
If i got 170,000 miles on the lude, would a new header along with my intake and exhaust (im getting exhaust with header) be a waste? Im lookin for less strain on my engine and inproved performance.... If it would not be a waste can i get some brand suggestions.. price estimates? Much appriceation in advance.

There's no nice way to say this, so I'll be straight.

SEARCH

But to answer your question, the stock header on the 5g Prelude's H22 is already a pretty good design. Many if not most aftermarket headers (ie, DC, Megan) are practically copies of the OEM design, so not really worth the effort or cost.

You can buy an RMF or SMSP but they'll set you back quite a few $$$.

You said you were looking at an intake as well, which one? Not that it matters, they're all pretty much the same. You will need a good tune with a piggyback computer (AFC Neo, VAFC, etc) to make any gains.

A good cat back will yeild gains, but not much. But a good cat back, with a decent intake and a good tune will yeild more.

not ANOTHER header tread D:<

We really need an announcement on the newb thread about the search button.

This is the final say,
-Ebay Headers, most are bound to break. some you get lucky with, no gains
-Cheap name brands, only difference is better quality, on a 5th gen. the megan and dc are the same, no large gains.
-Top of the line, no explanation, they're costly for a reason,

But I can't stress enough how every header thread ends with the person thinking they will gain from just a header, modding is expensive to do it right! you wont see pretty much ANY difference without the full system, so that means not just a header do the whole system!!!

it wont be a waste. It'll be for your enjoyment.
Intake, header & exhaust will make your car pretty fun to drive even more, throttle response is increased...you'll get the itch to do more you are warned

The preludee isnt a s200 were after market parts lose hp, anything will help man, yes the dc sport megan and all of the cheap eaby ones will not gain as many hp as the smsp and the now not made rmf ( i dont know why we still talk about a header thats not made any more ). I went from the cheap ebay header to the gready one and i did feel a difference in mid range and the car ran smoother. No I havent dynoed the car with it on but I bet it gains a few hp over the crap ebay one.

Oh and its your car DO WHAT YOU WANT

Whenever i ask what the first mods to my car should be most people reply intake/exhaust/header.... but i have been looking through a bunch of forums about headers such as rmf, smsp and what not and all of them say that the header is custom made for your setup in particular... and in most places it says you will not gain too much power unless your car is already built... built??? what exactly do they mean by built? so if i were interseted in buying a header, it would be smarter to work on my engine and "build" it before getting the header?
