Car losing power and sputtering at stops

Hello everyone I am in need of some advice about my 99 prelude. It is the base model with automatic trans and has approximately 180,000 miles. The car has been great to me, have had it the last 7-8 years. Suddenly starting about 3 months ago I've been running into several issues. First the speed sensor had an issue and that's been resolved. Next was the infamous surging idle which has also now been resolved. Am now having a quite strange issue that I can't figure out. The car can be started either when cold or hot.... and will run and accelerate smoothly for about a minute. All of a sudden I will feel a massive loss of power. The car still accelerates but I literally have to accelerate twice as hard to keep it going at about half the speed it should be going. Upon coming to a stop the rpms will drop very low and the car gets quite close to stalling. While it's behaving like this... I can put the car in park and the idle smooths out just fine. But as soon as I throw it in drive it goes back to having the huge loss of power. Also if I turn the car off, restart it and go down the road it drives great again but only for a short period of time ( about 30 seconds) then loses power again. The check engine light is on and I have attempted to have the code read to atleast have an idea of what it could be. Have tried 3 different obd2 readers... one cheap and the other two of better quality and they do power up but each time I only get an error message that it can't communicate with the reader. If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated. The car is 100% stock 99 base model H22

Re: Car losing power and sputtering at stops

problems like this are hard to diagnose over the internet. how old are the spark plugs, wires, distributor cap? get a compression test done on the motor and and check fuel pressure. these things will help pinpoint whats going on. could even just be the ECU crapping out since it cant be read.
