95 prelude engine failure

i bought my first Honda about a year ago. Its a 95 SI, 2.3 automatic. Had 96000 miles on it. Currently 116,000. Was a great car. I loved driving it. Never had a problem with it. That was until last week.
Developed a wicked knock for no obvious reason. I assume as does a reputable local motor builder that its a bearing failure meaning rebuild, finf a used motor.

Havent a clue as to what happened. I always have driven the car a little hard but not to extremes. Any ideas as to what caused the failure? The car was maintained pretty well so I dont get it. Any ideas what happened or why. Whats the best option for repair? The body and interior are perfect. Any advice is appreciated except for next time buy a chevy small block.
