Icon9 Need prelude help!

I just bought a 98 prelude type sh, I went to go change the O2 sensor and it was rough taking it out, I got the one on the catalytic converter out but it messed up the threading on that hole. The O2 was so messed up once out and I can't put a new one in, what should I do. The car also when turned on starts revving on its own and I don't know why, I think it's because the catalytic converter doesn't have an that O2 sensor know but I'm not sure. Can anyone help.

Thanks for responding, I'll look into the threading tool, and the revving started after I couldn't put a new O2 sensor.

Re: Need prelude help!

could be because of that.

can you plug the hole with anything?

now its not really wise to drive - your a/f rations are messed up without that sensor

Re: Need prelude help!

Ok so I took it to a muffler shop and they fixed the catalytic converter problem so the engine code for that went off, but it is still auto revving, the guy said the code it has is the map sensor it's like p108. Would that be the only problem or could it also be something else?.

Re: Need prelude help!

It might be an air leak but I cleaned the iacv and it is still idle surging, but when I disconnect the iacv the surging atops, does that mean I need a new iacv?

Re: Need prelude help!

I also should mention that after I drive a while the idle surge stops and it starts to rough idle, and when it does it feels like when I put in glass it doesn't want to flow through till I floor it. I cleaned the idle air control valve and I saw that the gasket was kinda bad, could that be the reason?

And I will bleed and replace the coolant today

Re: Need prelude help!

OK so I changed the map sensor, the idle air control valve, the map sensor, and cleaned the egr valve, I can't seem to get this idle surge to leave.

quick check list

- new pcv
- adjust valves and ignition
- adjust idle from tb's screw and throttle cable
- check does sensors work properly: map, iat and tps (and try calibrating tps)
- then check wires, connectors and hoses

check o2 sensors and vacuum/exhaust leaks (check all the seals - IM/header/TB gaskets, injector seals, maybe even buy valve cover gasket set...)
check timing. after that: double check timing

clogged cat might you give some trouble as well (usually when driving) - check cats condition

those are basic maintenance as well.

Re: Need prelude help!

What it ended up being was everything internally was carbed up and clogged, I took it to a mechanic and they took the engine apart.and cleaned everything out,

New problem is now it's idles really low and I have no idea what it is
