Re: Valve Adjustment Clearances '94 h22a

From the service manual:

Intake 0.23-0.28mm (0.009-0.011in)
Exhaust 0.27-0.30mm (0.011-0.013in)

When I did mine recently I just went 0.011in on all of them.

Thank you but why not 0.010in for intake and 0.012 or exhaust? Seems to make more sense but I am assuming it just doesn't really make a difference?

I didn't think it would have made THAT big a difference, 0.001in is not very big. My valve tick went away though. It's up to you really, I found it easier getting each cylinder in turn to TDC then adjusting all the valves for that cylinder without changing feeler gauges each time.

Tass,
You mean you did 011 on exhaust too? I can see that, but was it because your exhaust outlets were getting hotter so you 'cooled' it a bit by closing them a wee bit figuring that would help the tap? Or just to not have to change the feeler guage?
Sounds like it worked I just wondered the logic behind it.
I need to do mine and was curious why you went the route you did.

Re: Valve Adjustment Clearances '94 h22a

Logic wasn't a great concern of mine, it gave me a range of numbers so I picked the size that worked for both. I personally can't see the problem with going 0.009 intake and 0.013 exhaust, it's still within service range.

The methodology of doing a valve lash seems a little imprecise anyway, you only know you're in the right spot by how much the feeler gauge drags on the valve. Without the proper tool it took me a little trial and error to tighten the nut up without the valve turning still too. I wasn't trying to get the system to run hotter or colder either, just get the tick to stop.
