Urgent Brake Help

Hey I got a question for you guys, I was wondering if anyone has ever heard of this issue with anyones preludes. Ive been having an issue where intermittently ill have my brakes lock up. The first time it was 3 of the brakes that did it. (both front and 1 rear) We tried a few things like new calipers, brake lines, master cylinder. Did it again. Next time calipers were replaced only and we unplugged the ABS pump. Still did it. Then a new abs pump off a parts car i had was installed and the problem went away for about 1400 miles. 2 fridays ago on the way to my boys shop ironically the car did it again but this time it was only the left front brake. We changed the caliper and bled it etc and I was able to get it home, last wednesday the car did it again. At this point were starting to run out of ideas and the only thing left to do is change the brake booster and see if that does anything. Have you ever heard of anyone else's lude doing this? Just keep in mind it doesn't do it every time, I could go 1500 miles and no problems then it pops right back up or have it go out in less then 15 miles

After doing some additional research I only found 2 other ludes and 1 guy changed the Brake booster and 1 guy had the stop and cruise switch replaced on the brake pedal itself and it went away. Im not able to contact these guys so I don't know if it was a 100% permanent fix.

Re: Urgent Brake Help

Ya that's a weird one for sure, I guess it wouldn't be the prop valve acting weird, that's the only part not mentioned so far. I guess it couldn't decide to just lock up all of a sudden.. Ya that's messed up, are u using nice fresh retainers and grease? I know u are but gotta ask

Re: Urgent Brake Help

ya everything was in good working order when it before it went out again. it worked for about 6 months after the first time and about 1500 miles of driving then it did it again but only 1 wheel

Re: Urgent Brake Help

So this happens when you push on the brake pedal?
Or just brakes randomly activate...at random corners of the car?

Re: Urgent Brake Help

ya it just happens out of no where when it does decide to stop working. i can usually tell because i won't be able to accelerate and my steering wheel starts to shake followed by brake pad burning smell and sometimes smoke

Re: Urgent Brake Help

beats me this has happened 6 times so far in less then a year .. 4 times on the highway.. luckily i don't drive my lude often or very far so i can catch it quick enough and bring it by the shop i normally use. people say prelude curse isn't real but it is

i just bought another new used abs pump and plan on changing to steel braided brake lines in hopes this will change anything but i don't think either one of these 2 things are the real issue here since it happens intermittently

Re: Urgent Brake Help

Ok, my little bwain says to check the piston on each caliper to ensure they operate. Could be as simple as hardened grease...or crud at the nipple of the brake line inlet.
Very common with Honda brakes.

Re: Urgent Brake Help

Does the brake pedal drop when this happens, or does it stay put?

Very common with Honda brakes.

calipers checked out fine. one of the sliders wasn't sliding as it should but we replaced it with another one and still did it
