Guess that engine noise!

This has been happening for about 4-5 months now. At first i thought it was just a vac leak, or some kind of air leak near the manifold. I posted a video on facebook and a couple people suggest a wobbly crankshaft pulley, so i thought i'd bring this to the experts here at PZ. In the video attached, you'll see both cold start, and all warmed up.

The search function turned up only two posts regarding how to fix it, i just don't know how to diagnose it.

Thanks guys

Re: Guess that engine noise!

Well since no one has replied to this, i went ahead and posted the video to Reddit on /r/mechanicadvice and a couple people suggested:

1. Power steering pump needs to be either flushed or replaced
2. Valves need adjustment
3. Oil pressure may be low.

I regularly check and top off my oil, but i dunno how to check the pressure, or what could be causing a drop in pressure. Have not noticed any kind of oil leaks or anything, but i will be changing the oil soon. Also was planning on changing out spark plugs and wires soon, so if my valves need adjusting i might go ahead and knock that all out at once.

Again if anyone has any ideas or advice, i'd really appreciate it.

With a video like that and no localization of the noise via stethoscope or long screwdriver, the "internet mechanics" will come out of the wood works and recommend everything under the moon leaving you with nothing to go on.

Pin pointing the area of concern is the first step in diagnostic.

Re: Guess that engine noise!

^^ this

The H motor has a very sensitive oil pressure sensor. If your pressure drops to the point of noise you'll more than likely get an oil pressure lamp lit.

Again, like Blake said, ear to the long screwdriver touching various areas will tell you a lot of what is and what isn't.
Hold it on the valve cover, on the ps pump etc to see what you hear.
PS pump issues make a humming/whining sound. Valves out of adjustment make a tapping sound. If you hear hissing, it could be your air filter is noisy. Intakes into those aftermarket thingys can be loud. Could be an exhaust leak. Put a teaspoon or two of auto tranny fluid in your throttle body and watch the smoke.

As a rule I don't state opinions based on videos. Most times the audio quality lacks and couple that with my cell phones kazzoo sounding speaker, unless it's a knock, thump or squeal it's hard to give an accurate opinion...
Besides, your nickle was up in your last enquiries. lol.

I'll listen to the video later, when I have signals good enough to stream a video.

Re: Guess that engine noise!

Later:
It's definitely localized to the power steering pump area.
Sounds like a bearing going bad or your belt is scraping on something.
Definitely pulley related and not oil pressure or valves...
Again listening through a kazzoo speaker.
