Bad news with my prelude

well today on my way home from work witch is a hour drive I had a riced out civic pull up next to me actin crazy. So i took off with him, he kept up to about 90 mph and then I started pullin from him fast. He got off about 4 exits after that so I kicked her back down to 70.. I finally got about 1 mile from my exit and I noticed that my check engine light turned on. well i slowed down to about 50 and cruised to my exit ramp. Once i really started slowing down the check engine light started flashing and then went back to solid. once i came to a stop smoke started pouring out of the exhaust and under the hood, and it was sputtering bad. I pulled it over and shut it down. Luckly i was only about 2 miles from my house on country roads so my buddy pulled me home cause there is no way that low s.o.b would get on a trailer. We then started it again to check it out. Under the hood the smoke smelt like antifreeze yet the exhaust smelt like burnt oil. Well now what do i do. The guy that came and got me is a mechanic and he said it could be lots of things like, sensor, jumped time, head gasket(witch is new),head(witch is new also). If anyone has heard of this problem please let me know. I am going to hook my buddies scanner up to it tomarrow and hopefully it is something simple but I doubt it. Thanks yall, Cooper

Nah, not at all. 1996 and up, OBD II requires the scan tool to diagnose problems, emissions and almost everything else.

Since you are OBD II, you have a lot more potent choices...Euro-R motor, H23Vtec & type S motor which all just simply bolt/plug in. I believe the type S may or may not due to different mounting points, but im no expert on 4th gens...

I hope so...if im gonna fork out the money to buy a h23 vtec than i definatley dont wanna spend a assload for someone to install it if i can do it myself. I have did lots of motor swaps but all direct bolt up and turn key. If I could find someone that has done this before that would make my life so much easier, thanks for everyone's help

The H23VTEC will drop right now and bolt right up to the tranny and all. You will however need an OBD2 VTEC ECU. If your car is auto, you can use the H23VTEC ECU since those were all auto. Your other option is to get a OBD1 P13 out of a VTEC 4th gen Lude and a OBD1 conversion harness.

news...news...news...news....just scanned my lude says i have a miss in 3 and 4 cylinder.... I pulled the plugs and there is lots of antifreeze in there. I am pulling the head off tonight. I already talked to napa auto and they are going to check the head in the morning. If the head is good they are going to send it off to get it ported and polished... I am then going to buy new cam gears, underdrive pulleys, and skunk intake for it. What else should I get for it right now before it goes back together.. Thanks yall, Cooper
