1992 Prelude SI, won't turn over

I am not a mechanic by any means but I just bought a this car off of a guy down the street a few months back and have been running into some problems with getting the car to turn over. The battery, alternator both test fine. When I go to start the car it has the initial push to want to fire but then doesn't, then I go to turn the key again and it goes click click click click click. It starts perfectly fine in the morning when it is cool out, but this problem has started happening now that Summer has hit and it only happens in the afternoons when it is 90 degrees outside. Car runs like a champ and drives like a dream, it is just getting the damn thing started. My positive terminal cable is showing some corosion but also seems like there is a fuel problem because when it does start and is in park, the engine revs itself between 1500 and 2000 rpm. Any ideas?

Search this Forum for "Main Relay". You will need to replace it, or if you are handy with a soldering iron, you might be able to fix it. Autozone and those others still carry them.

Starting problem = main relay.

Stop making assumptions like you ARE a mechanic, I.E. assuming bouncing idle = fuel problem.
99% of the time bouncing idle is an air leak or coolant related (IACV/FITV), etc. You can start that diagnosis here;
the FINAL idle problem thread!!!!!

Let me also add that I have an ignition interlock on there from a DUI that I had gotten a while back, could this thing be causing some of the issues?

Re: 1992 Prelude SI, won't turn over

DEFINITELY should be considered a possible cause of the car not starting.

Re: 1992 Prelude SI, won't turn over

I took it over to my buddy's house who has a plethora of early 90's hondas. He said that my positive terminal cable was very corroded and the connection it made to the fuse box was loose. He replaced the cable and it started right up. He said worst case scenario that wasn't it and you eliminated a possibility for 8 bucks. He claimed he didn't think it was the main relay, but you never know. I appreciate everyone's input!
