Help Deciding on a clutch..

So I've got a 98 Base Lude with a H23A bluetop, full bolt ons. Making 202hp and 174hp to the wheels(mustang dyno). So I'm looking into a new clutch to replace my current Competition Clutch Stage 2 Clutch(matched up with 8lb fidenza flywheel). Put it in a few years ago and its finally starting to go. So I'm looking at a ACT HDSS, Exedy Stage 1 or 2, or idk. I love my current setup, so looking for something in the same ball park. thoughts?

Re: Help Deciding on a clutch..

Silly question;
Why not just repeat the setup you have now?

Re: Help Deciding on a clutch..

My son went from oem to a competition with an oem flywheel.

He's pretty psyched about it. But since he won't let me drive his car I cannot comment on other than helping him torque the bolts...
Daryl has a clutchmaster stage 3 in his beast. If memory serves Wings has a clutchmaster. Both have the lightweight flywheel.
I have an unknown stage 1 with lightened flywheel and a stiffer than stock pedal that when lifted about 3" off the floor puts the car in 'go' mode. All else is stock generally so you having all that extra giddy-up may find that lacking...

Guess you've noticed all the cobwebs littering the site, as the folks with the 'good stuff' are generally pretty scarce anymore.

It's mainly a couple of not so new folks trying to help out as they share the stoke of their not so recent acquisition of the Honda Prelude.
It seems to be a lot less build-a-beast zone and more these days.
Nick the thread killer drops by daily and kills threads, or other moderator stuff.
Hopefully somebody will pop in and give their thoughts...

Re: Help Deciding on a clutch..

i love my act stage 2 setup it was expensive but i have no complaints. its not my daily anymore and only drive it maybe once or twice a week but I've had the clutch in the car for about 2 years of use like this and it still feels stiff. i don't do burn outs or abuse it too often but i will drop it into 3rd occasionally and it grips and goes. i personally wouldn't try and reinvent the wheel and would go with the same clutch you already know about

Re: Help Deciding on a clutch..

The Exedy is an oem replacement so I'm sure you can't go wrong with their clutch.

Re: Help Deciding on a clutch..

I just replaced my H22A4 with an H23 vtec blue top. I have an Exedy Stage 1 clutch, Fidanza 8lb flywheel and I/H/E. The clutch setup was fine with my 180k mile H22a4, but it can't tolerate much more with the new motor. It slipped the other day when I had a good pull.

The Exedy Stage 1 is a great choice if you were going to get a stock replacement clutch anyway. For extra power, look into their stage 2 and above. I remember there was a significant price difference between stage 1 and 2. Looked like a much more serious clutch.
