What tools are in your garage?

Just wondering what everyone has in their garage, to start off here is my really basic tool list that I have acquired over the years:

-Various screw drivers
-2 pairs of pliers (can't find either one of them)
-Heat gun
-Hot glue gun
-Wood saw
-Kobalt Hack saw (it sucks)
-Screw driver with built in ratchet
-Assorted screw driver bits and sockets
-Magnetic screw tray
-Soldering Iron
-2 tiny drill bits
-elephant feet chisel tool (don't know exact name: used for hammering in nails to become flush with wood)

That's about it.

Add in your Garage tools...

Re: What tools are in your garage?

Harbor Freight and Northern Tools have decent stuff for not a lot of dough. $25 here, $50 there and you'll soon have a good starting point. Home Depot stuff is pretty much Craftsman these days.
I started out with a tool bag. One with lots of pockets. It's amazing how much stuff fits in one. Get one with a shoulder harness.

^^ top right is the bag all this fits in.

Buy good screwdrivers (not HF or NT type) and a few cans of liquid wrench type stuff.

Re: What tools are in your garage?

all my "tools" fill up half a shoe box. hahaha

I need to get some tools, specifically:
Jack
Jack stands
Torque wrench
Rachets and sockets
Spark plug sockets
extensions
angle thingies for the socket extensions
and stuff but they will come along as time progresses.

Thanks for your responses!

Re: What tools are in your garage?

Got one of these in my garage too...

It's my son's car.

It don't do any work. It just sits there lookin' all pretty.

^^ you could start with something like this.
Fits in a corner and will hold all you mentioned.

The S&SPOG tool chest.

^^ we try to keep stuff portable as possible.
Our garage is a multitude of work shops. So we keep items portable to maximize floor space at a moments notice for varying types of projects including cars these days.

^^ folding engine crane and quick disassemble motor stand.

^^ this was my starter kit in a books-a-million bag
All told that setup was about $150. Catch stuff on sale and you can have the same for a lot less.

Re: What tools are in your garage?

What other tools are necessary when working on a 2001 Type-SH?
I plan on spending probably about $300-$400 on tools in the next year or two.

Any leads on must haves?
Thanks!

Re: What tools are in your garage?

- A decent set of 1/4" drive and 3/8" drive metric sockets with ratchet. 8-14 mm for 1/4" and 10-19 + a 22 for the 3/8 set. A few extensions for each set. A deep well 10, 12, 14 and 19
- A set of open end/box end wrenches 8-19 mm and a 22
- Dental picks
- Door panel puller
- A couple sized decent pry bars
- A set of screwdrivers. Several size tips and lengths
- A can of liquid wrench, pb blaster or wd40
- Rags, paper towels and stuff to wipe up spills.
- Vice grips
- A bag to store it all.

My first jack was a portable Craftsman. $50. Still use it today.

I'm sure others have other ideas as well.
