Icon5 2000 prelude sh vtec noticed not hitting as hard as it has been?

Lately like the past week vtec isn't hitting like at all in my car. You can hear a very mild switch over but not as strong as it has been?!? I have a p1456 cel fo evap leak gas tank. But that's been on for almost a month. I haven't done anything with the car to make it not work properly. Anyone have any ideas?

Car goes into self preserve mode anytime the MIL is activated.

Translation: vtec no worky with cel on.

Pretty much got flamed for driving like a jackass and was told to slow down. And I'll be damned, slowing down fixed it.

This "self preserve" mode you're talking about is called limp mode (as in, limp home mode). However, an MIL does not always activate limp mode. There are only a few CEL codes serious enough to throw the car into limp mode.

Anywaaaays...OP, try screwing your gas cap on all the way (or just replacing it with a new one) and having the code cleared. That code shouldn't put the car in limp mode. How is your oil level? What temp is the engine at when this is happening? Engine temp greater than 90* Fahrenheit and an adequate amount of oil are two of the prerequisites for VTEC.
