00 Prelude power steering issues.

This prelude is giving me one problem after another. Got it running 100% except for the damned power steering. At first, I would have no power steering at idle, but it would come on around 2K rpm. I figured that the pump was starting to get weak, so I picked up a new one. Slapped that one in, purged the air and I had NO power steering at any RPM. Figured I just got a bad pump, so I had them exchange it and the new one is doing the same thing.

Only thing that I can think of at this point is the rack and pinion. Anything else to check for before I go spending even more money on this thing?

Found it. Screen in the bottom of the reservoir was sludged up. Cleaned it out and it's working great.

Re: 00 Prelude power steering issues.

Have to keep that in mind.

Thanks for updating. Now when folks 'google' this subject pz will have a possible answer to their situation.

When entering a new phase of restoring my car I search the topic and right often pz has the info I need. Many of those other forums threads show up but offer no real solution for a number of reasons.. but usually because nobody ever said how they'd fixed it.

Not used to having a screen in the bottom of the reservoir, must be a honda thing. No problem, I HATE it when that happens, find someone with the exact same problem and they never posted the solution.

Re: 00 Prelude power steering issues.

Rep'd ya for it daddy-o

I saw your solution and thought "a screen!?! Are you kidding me?" But it's probably good one was there to trap all that sludge, right?
