Prelude w/ no gas gauge

I am looking to buy a 1994 honda prelude si but one of the only things holding me back is that it doesn't have a fuel gauge and I can't for the life of me find an aftermarket one that is for a fact compatible. I saw some on autometer.com but I think those may only be compatible for ford, Chrysler and gm? Please help

Re: Prelude w/ no gas gauge

Car-part.com for used stuff.

Fill your tank with fuel, and keep your eyes on the odometer. Drive it say 100 miles. Refill to full. Compute gallons vs miles for your mpg and maybe you'll have found a gauge by then.

Have you asked your local Honda dealer?

Re: Prelude w/ no gas gauge

junkyard?...ebay....craigslist has an auto parts section where the person may have the exact part or you may find a car that someone is parting out and you just go grab it...I don't like aftermarket much myself that's why I suggest factory equipment.

I hope you're not planning on paying a lot of money for the car...hard to put a value on something when you don't know how many miles it has on it...to me it sounds like whoever the owner is hasn't been taking very good care of the car....that or it was something that he bought and is trying to flip without fixing everything that was wrong with it lol good luck man. trust your gut when you check it out.

Re: Prelude w/ no gas gauge

Probably.
May sound stupid, but it could be the dimmer switch is turned down.

Re: Prelude w/ no gas gauge

The dimmer switch doesn't turn them completely dark, even at the lowest setting.

The gas and temperature gauges are an integrated unit -- the gauges themselves are literally one piece, mounted on a circuit board. It's pretty common as they age for them to stop illuminating for some reason. Unfortunately, Honda no longer makes that part, so you either have to find one from a part-out, or engineer another solution. It's the same part '92-'96, so any one you find will fit, as long as it works.
