Icon8 HELP! Gremlins are eating my Prelude!

1992 Honda Prelude type S (2.2)
Okay first the problem:
I'll be driving along and the engine starts to run rough then dies and will not start again for anywhere from 5 minutes to an hour. It acts like its out of gas but tank is always full or close to. When it first happened it started right back up. Then 3 weeks later it happened again and it took an hour of "rest" before it would start again. That was 2 weeks ago. Now it happens every day. The weirdest part is that when its been driven recently (as in within an hour or so) it is more likely to happen. Doesn't happen on the freeway. Only in town.

What I've tried already:
replaced Fuel pump, fuel filter, spark plugs, pumped out the gas and replaced with new (always premium).

My mechanic buddy is stumped but he's not a Honda specialist and I am at my wits end. Help me please!

Was owned by a chick that tried to put radiator fluid in the oil. So I am slowly fixing/replacing everything she touched. Nice thing is I bought it for $500 cause she thought it was dead. It was the clutch.

When it happens again, pull a spark plug out and put it into the spark plug boot. Ground the bottom of the plug to a valve cover nut and have a friend turn the engine over.

If you see a lightning bolt them you know you can eliminate an ignition problem. Start there, with the basics.

You have to immerse it in water, that's the only way to kill them!

Re: HELP! Gremlins are eating my Prelude!

^^ I see what you did there. Good one.

We just put one in the shop because it's doing very close to what yours is doing. Before I started throwing a bunch of parts at it I did the basics and everything checks out.

In our case car runs great for 30 seconds and dies. Won't restart for a while, but when it does it runs about 30 seconds and dies... each time.

My gut says it's electrical.

The symptoms sound a lot like the main relay issue that is common on 3rd gens.
