Hey guys new to the forum and preludes in general just seeking some advice

hi,

so basically my family mechanic came across a 2000 prelude manual with 238,000+ miles on it and fixed it up. He wants to sell it for 2k. Just wondering if this is a good buy. I looked it over and could use some cosmetic repairs but everything seems to be bone stock and it ran fine on the test drive.

Please let me know if there is anything specific i should be looking out for. Any help is much appreciated since I don't know much about preludes.

Thanks

yeah im leaning on just taking the leap but for a 21yo with only a part time job 2k is a lot for me. The good thing is though since we've known this mechanic for a long time im pretty sure i can trust him and he also said if after a couple days something happens or i just don't like it he'll take it back with a refund :)

Preludes are awesome but are area huge money pit. Expect it to need fixing but for 2k I wouldn't complain. Just look for rust

yea that is a pretty good deal especially for it being a 5th gen... i'm still seeing them around 10g obviously with a lot less mileage but that is a good deal and like was already said lots of stuff to spend your money on with these cars! not just in repair but making it uniquely yours and making it run better than new if that makes any since....

Sounds like a good deal. If he is that good mechanic that your family has already tested than it is a good deal. These are great cars that will last a very long time when taken care of.

21 years old, here in Toronto the only thing stopping young drivers from buying a car is the car Insurance you've got to pay, just basic coverage with no collision, you'll be paying $500/mth min.

For $2000, buy it.

You said manual. Good. Is the motor original? How about the clutch.

When was the timing belt done?

That's $500+ if you don't diy...
Other than that and make sure it has decent tread on the tires, sounds good.

From what he told me he replaced the clutch, the motor is original, replaced the timing belt, the spark plugs, the brakes, the radiator and some other things i cant remember but basically it was a decent sized list. Other than some dumb stickers on it it felt fine driving. the tires are a little worn out but i don't mind putting on new ones and paying for them.

Nice grab bro! I like that she came with mudflaps, bra, and wing. You might want to get some retrofit headlights or try to restore the ones you got. I usually burn 1 quart a week sometimes more depending on how much vtec I rip!

If you can go 3000mi without hitting VTEC, you shouldn't burn any if the motor is in good shape. I do a LOT of VTEC'ing on my newly built motor and lose about 1/2 quart per oil change.

GOOOOD GOD either that's a lot of VTEC'ing, or your piston rings have jizzed their brains out. Figuratively speaking.

Re: Hey guys new to the forum and preludes in general just seeking some advice

Dude might drive a lot of miles...
Some oil consumption on a motor with 200xxx miles would be normal. A quart per tankful of fuel would not be unrealisic... provided it's no more than that. If you drive it in the city a lot a tankful won't last as many miles as highway use at say 60-65mph.

Nice car.

Like Lazarky said, check the trunk out. Tail light gaskets let rain water in many an old Honda. Easy fix.
