Back-to-back silencers?

Since mufflers suck.. and so-called "silencers" are only slightly quieter than straight pipe (cat-back, of course :P) I figured why not get the best of both worlds and have a silencer with a silencer behind it..

But is it feasible? I mean welding a silencer-pipe into another silencer pipe (or welding them in separate places on the exhaust line) would seem like a bit of work so it needs to be worth it.

I'm not into the loud exhausts. As fun as it can be, I don't really enjoy getting pulled over.
