2000 Prelude base model starting problems

So I'm in need of some help. I purchased a 2000 prelude from a friend that ran strong up until it was parked outside for a year. My friend and I have been working diligently on it and can't get it started to save our lives.

Here is what we've done so far.
-fresh fuel with injector cleaner
-new fuel filter

Fuel pressure is good, there is injector pulse.

Checked spark, spark is there on all cylinders for a couple of seconds while cranking and then stops. Checked spark at coil, same story.

Replaced distributor and external coil. Problem still there although spark is much stronger.

With starting fluid it'll fire up for a brief moment and then die a couple of seconds later.

We have been searching everywhere and are quite stumped. Any help or advice would be much appreciated. I want to park my Highlander already and start driving my prelude

Do you have a check engine light?

When the key is turned just before cranking- look to see if the check engine light starts to blink. If it does, you have a CEL to figure out.

Are all the grounds/power wires tight? Checked fuses? Tested battery voltage? Clutch pressure? (if 5spd)

no check engine light. It goes through it's normal sequence of illuminating briefly and then shutting off.

grounds all looked good. New battery. Clutch pressure is there. Haven't checked fuses however.
What has me truly baffled is the intermittent spark. All 4 spark plugs fire in order upon initial cranking for a second or two and then completely stop. We've tested this at the spark plug wires and at coil. I did have to have the engine immobilizer reflashed as my original keys weren't turning the engine over at all. I've read on a few sites that this signal from the key to the immobilizer has to match the same signal in the ECU.

Any ideas?

Sometimes it helps the check the simplest things first, like the ignition switch and the wiring harness that's connected to it. It could be a faulty aftermarket immobilizer even.

Re: 2000 Prelude base model starting problems

If you have warranty left on the repair take it back.

Also any standalone aftermarket alarm or remote start will interrupt / conflict with the immobilizer and car no worky. The upgrades dealers used to sell worked with the immobilizer, but those things are only through honda.

What I don't know is if the reflash of the immobilizer needed time to learn / lock in the signal. Sound dumb to me if that is the case, but then again, I drive a car with the gas tank in the trunk.

Yeah...I'll need to do some digging under the dash and check the wiring. I think I'll head to the stealer ship this week and get the immobolizer bypass code from them to see if I can get her to start that way. At least that way I can verify that the immobolizer is my problem. As much as I'd hate to shell out the $800 or whatever it is for new key set and immobolizer through the dealership it wouldn't be the end of the work considering I picked up the car for $1200 with 120k on the clock.
