h22a eninge surging problems

I recently purchased a 5th gen that has a jdm h22a swap its had a slight surging problem. I took intake manifold off clean the egr passage installed a new egr valve, checked the iacv( which was still good), replaced the knock sensor. After I reinstalled everything the engine surge will rev up to 4000 and drop to 1500. Any ideas on what else it could be?

Re: h22a eninge surging problems

air trapped in coolant system, theres a screw on top of the thermostat housing u can unscrew to let the air out. the fitv can also cause an idle surge

A few things:

- Did you clean the VTEC solenoid?
- Check and adjust the TPS?
- Bleed the cooling system?

Re: h22a eninge surging problems

You may have cracked a vacuum hose, not put it back on correct or... forgot to re-install one. Easy to do with all those crevices and blind spots in the bay.

And yes, check your coolant for air. The high spot is the idle temp sensor (fitv) and the iacv. So you may have some air from losing the coolant while removing that.

Re: h22a eninge surging problems

I read the final idle thread and could not find anything altitude specefic. I live at 5500+ above sea level. Mine surges some here. It will dip down low (alot of my plastic interior stuff rattles) then go up a little above a normal idle maybe 900 or so. I dont think it does it with the ac on. At sea level it is perfect. I occasionally get a cel on accelerating, but it goes away after I turn the key off. I have tried to pull a code, but it does not keep it. I have a JDM H22a with a OBD 1 jdm p13. What elevation do you live at jk5thgen?
