Icon9 Simple Critical question for experienced builder ;(

First let me give a little background on what I have in my hands. The motor has been running great until last Friday when I got an oil pressure light. When the oil light turned on I was coming to a stop and the motor died on me, so I had no choice but to crank it back up ,took a few tries but it started right back, pulled over to the side and check the oil and it was a bit under the low mark so I thought it might have just been that. Drove the car back home around 2 miles maybe 10 mins and added more oil but the light was still on, that's when my poor little heart started pounding. I was thinking of getting a new oil pressure switch but decided to go straight to the point and got an oil pressure test gauge kit and got NO PRESSURE at all. I removed the oil pan to took a look and found something terrible. Let the pic do the talking but I need to know is that my crank or part of my oil pump? that's a shot directly at the hole where the oil pick up should be located. Before I removed the pan the motor MADE NO NOISE and I found like 2 or 3 very small flakes of metal in the pan. Please let me know how Fck am I . And thanks again for the help guys I keep having great luck with my lude.

Re: Simple Critical question for experienced builder ;(

I WANNA say that's part of the oil pump that snapped, not positive, but it would agree with breaking the oil pump translating into no oil pressure.

I'll snap a similar pic of a spare oil pump I have laying around for comparison purposes.

Re: Simple Critical question for experienced builder ;(

Yes please Twokex take a pic of the pump from that same angle and let me know I would like to be positive and think is this here the oil pump gear that broke into pieces.. Like this guy over at honda-tech Second pic..
And lindso I was able to remove the piece but was not able to get a good look at it because I did this yesterday in the nyc streets and by the time I figured the problem I was so cold I couldn't even think straight and never took a picture :(. we had a snow storm the day before

Re: Simple Critical question for experienced builder ;(

Yup you did exactly what you pictured; broke the rotor that provides pressure.

Here's the pump off the motor (so it obviously isn't the crank );

And zoomed in on the oil pickup intake, where you can see the shiny rotor (yours aint shiny. It's broke )

Now..... ASSUMING YOU SHUT IT OFF BEFORE ANY FURTHER DAMAGE OCCURED!!!! (this is a BIG assumption), a new oil pump and you "should" be good to go

In my case, I blew the oil pump from a turbo oil feed line popping off the block and squirting all the oil outta the engine. That motor lasted for another ~5,000miles at 6psi/~230whp, than this happened....

If it wasn't making any noise you can try a new pump and maybe it'll keep going

Re: Simple Critical question for experienced builder ;(

Few pics of what I got done yesterday...
Pump is gone, and it looks like all the little pieces of metals I found belong to the pump..

ANY idea why my water pump is yellowish??? oil? HG?

Should be done with everything later today.

Got done with everything and the motor seems to be running OK for now, I will keep fingers cross and update if anything changes, but for now I will enjoy it while I can

Mehh, I'm the one who appreciates it; it was my crowning achievement

Oh yah, I'd also do an oil change pretty soon too, just in case any metal shavings/filings from the broken gear got thru the rest of the motor, to clean it out.

That's a great advise again man, I didn't even think to do that since I just put brand spanking new oil in her, I will probably change oil and filter just for safety this weekend after all this holiday goodness is over..
