what ur saying is u just want to prep it for painting correct? if no dents need to be attended to then just sand the car down with 400 grit. As far as a brand of sander idr what I used and it doesnt really matter but u get what u pay for!(as in life expectancy) But any hand da sander will work.

uhh do w/e u want but I went through schooling for it... ( just to paint my own car...lol) but yea... sounds way to gritty... u want a good clean smooth surface to paint on so I would do 400 which is what I used.

600 wetsand. Lots of water. Meguiars caranuba wax job until you paint it. Any sanding will devour your clearcoat. Sealant and hardeners need to be applied with a compressor and paint gun.

Honestly, Use rubbing compound, clay bar, liquid glass from maguiars and hand polish.
If the paint still looks like crap, proceed to sanding.

Re: Painting. Tools?

Unless you have clearcoat fail use a clay bar, lots of 3m ultra rubbing compound, then a good bit of polish work and your paint will look magnificent before wax is applied.

If you have clear coat fail, you have to remove it before re-paint or your new coating will not bond beyond the clearcoat that's peeling.

During ^^

After ^^

That was about 20 hours of work to no avail. A month later the pink was still gone. But it's obvious my clearcoat is failing.
So later I will use 800 grit water proof paper with constant water between the paper and the car. Working in small 2'x2' areas max until the entire roof, trunk and hood are done. Then 1000 grit.
Once the clear coat is gone a good resin glaze like TR3 will stay applied every 60-90 days until time to re-paint.
