F and H Vtec engine spec question

I couldn't think of a different title to this quick thread, so that's all I got.

I am looking for a swap for my 94 S, I know I want to do a vtec motor swap. I've already looked at my primary options. I have the H23A Vtec, the F20B Vtec, and the H22A Vtec.

Personally, I am shying away from the F20B because of a slight torque deficiency. I am looking for the motor with the highest torque and bhp combo.

I like the H23 because of the longer stroke ergo higher torque spec, but the bhp is still equal to the F20B.

I looked up some specs, and I'm coming up with two different sets of numbers for the same H22A. I'm seeing a different piston dome ergo different compression ratio ergo different bhp and tq numbers. The better of the two has an 11.0:1 comp and 220bhp with the same 164tq as the H23A. But the other H22A has 10.0:1 comp and only 187bhp with 152tq.

My main question is what is the difference between the two H22A's and how can I tell the difference when buying one. I don't plan on doing any internal work to the engine once I acquire it, only intake mani and exhaust and balancer shaft delete. So I want to find the motor that makes the most power and torque. If there's anything I'm missing or haven't mentioned feel free to fill me in. I'm semi new to F/H series engines.

Thanks.
New Guy

Re: F and H Vtec engine spec question

The H22a with roughly 220 hp is the Type S motor and a little pricey since its JDM only and rare, it has a higher compression with different pistons, it also uses more aggressive cams, and I believe a beefier valve train. The H22a1 is the USDM 4th gen motor and good for around 190 hp. The H22a4 is the 5th gen motor rated around 200 hp

Is there a piston or head code I should be looking for on these engines? I know the two different B20B engines have different head codes, P75 and P8R I believe. Are these H22's the same?
