help... why does my car lag when CEL comes on...

I have a chipped ecu that came with the car my CEL is on however the code reader at autozone and advanced auto give me the same reading (LINK ERROR). while driving the car its running smooth and quick pick up but after about 5 mins or sothe CEL comes on feels like its lagging and very slow. I tried a newstock ECU but the car wont turn on with the new ECU but will with the chipped one... Anybody on here know how to check ECUs or have any idea what can this be...

My car is a 98 base prelude...

You have the wrong ECU for the car. Sounds like you're running an obd1 ecu, with either a hacked converted harness or a jumper harness.

buying a new stock ecu won't work due to the immobilizer, unless it has been bypassed.

what motor is in the car? Read the stamp to the left of the header, on the engine block.
