My sh*t be slippin'

My car was recently resurrected from the grave. The unfortunate part of this is that I have not yet exorcised all of the demons.

So anyway due to a sputtering problem I put new spark plugs in. Now there is another issue. When I attempt to accelerate rapidly my car will stall. By stall I mean no acceleration at all. I have to let off the gas and slowly depress again. Why this happen?

I'm thinking I just need to check my gaps again and re-install the plugs. I can do that tomorrow. I've just never had something like this happen to any of my cars.

No. I'm starting to wonder if it even works considering I've never seen it on despite the issues.

Slipping clutch.

Might wanna get your terminology correct before confusing people; 99% of the time, the word "stall" means the engine dies.

Yeah I realize that now. Hell even the title is misleading. My bad

If any of you have had a governor on your car it feels a lot like when that kicks on. It seems to only do it in 2-3k RPM and in 1-3 gears.

Re: My sh*t be slippin'

If you compare it to a governor, that sounds different to me than a slipping clutch. You would continue to rev higher if the clutch slipped and it would eventually engage and you would feel the power again. A governor at such low rpm reminds me of a boost cut. I don't know if you're boosted or not, just saying what it sounds like based on your description.

I am not boosted. Yeah I didn't think it was a clutch thing. The car was sputtering a bit before I replaced the spark plugs, but it wasn't doing this. So now I've replace the plugs and this starts.

Re: My sh*t be slippin'

I'm also running a cycle of fuel injector cleaner through it. I figure after sitting for so long that the lines were probably a little gummed up.

But to answer your questions. I'm not sure, but I do suspect something to do with fuel delivery. I mean why else would it feel like a governor is limiting my vehicle?

Re: My sh*t be slippin'

The only time I ever hit a governor is in my Xterra @ 99 and it's kinda violent. How long did your car sit? Like, long enough for the fuel to possibly go bad? Mine sat for 10mo with 1/2 tank of 91 octane and was fine when it was started, but it was garaged and I live in the driest part of the country.

Could it also be maybe an O2 sensor limiting your throttle if it's getting a misread on your catalyst efficiency? I'm not too good with OBD2 stuff yet so I'm not familiar with all the 'Limp Modes', but it seems plausible.

BTW, nice imagery in your first post's opening statement.

Okay try not to soil yourself, but the car sat every bit of 7 years. When it went down there wasn't very much fuel in the system.

The fuel system was running fine when it first started running. This just started on Friday. Again I ran some cleaner through it, but I intent to run a second cycle of injector cleaner through with the next tank as well. I've also been using premium for the first few tanks. I'm not sure if I will continue to do so forever though. I agree the governor is very violent. I'm serious though this action happening now reminds me of that.

Re: My sh*t be slippin'

Stop over complicating things, guys. It can be as simple as adjusting your throttle cable. That cable needs looking after and when people stomp the gas, you are losening it. Check that first.

I have a hard time believing an 02 sensor would have anything to do with this.

Re: My sh*t be slippin'

Dude says he doesn't have a cel. He says cel lamp lights when starting the car. Maybe mr swipe is on to something here. ie actually a mechanism and not a computer related issue.

Somebody mentioned old fuel. I wonder if there's gel in the fuel filter, in the injectors, in the fuel lines.

Does it idle ok?

Perhaps a vacuum leak?

Could timing be off a degree?

Why was the car sitting? I had a timing chain go on a car years ago. When that got fixed, my $h1t was slippin'. I had a bent push rod. Valves weren't opening correctly.

You changed your oil,right?

Pretty much got flamed for driving like a jackass and was told to slow down. And I'll be damned, slowing down fixed it.

Re: My sh*t be slippin'

It could also be a clogged catalytic converter, or something in the intake. check all the vacuum hoses and make sure there are no vacuum leaks.
