Had An Epiphany

Well boys and girls...I took inventory today...and from the looks of it...For my lude to be as fast as my Impala....its gonna take a couple grand...at least. And I think I'm going to stop modding the lude becuz my original intention was to make it my practical DD gas saver...Plus, a smallblock V8 with almost 300 hp and 360lbft of torque is a much better platform for a weekend, balls to the wall, kick you in the ass car. IMO at least. right now, I have a few options for the Impala that could easily get it into the low 14s, for much less than what it would take for the lude to reach those times.

I understand that probably 80% of yall are partial to the Prelude, but try and put that away and lemme know what yall think.

i concur. a RWD V8 is almost always more fun than a FWD 4 banger. theres just something about the rumble of a small block that sends chills up my spine that you just can't get with a honda

Don't go the easy way out. It really isn't hard to get a h22 or H23 Lude into the 14's.

Yea...thats what my decision is...
I have the 96 Super Sport LT1...basically an over-weight corvette with a drinking problem.

Im not taking the easy way out, Speed. Im taking the financially smart way out. I dont make enough money to be spending it all on that prelude when the reason i bought it in the first place was to save money (mostly on gas)...And ive realized that the smaller your car is, the less likely it is for some yahoo to hit it with their minivan's doors.

...And thats my final answer, Regis.

Good luck buying gas for the Impala.
My friend sold his Z28 LT1 because of that, I've NEVER seen him that upset either, considering he in a Dakota now on air-bags.
Whatever works best for you man. It's your cars and your money. I just think a Lude in the 14s is a little more respectable than a V8 cause you sorta expect the V8 to be way faster, ya know? But like I said, that's just my opinion.

well they both run the same stock 1/4 mile times give or take a few tenths and a friend of mine has a modded SS and I walk his monkey a$$ and I can go out and do a full night of racing on a half a tank and still come back with almost the same amount of gas.

honestly i'll hate on anything chevy everyday of the week, so my answer is the lude man.

if it was another car, the answer may have been diff, but seeing as it's a chevy, you can go ahead and run it into the ground for all i care.

Well, i made the deadly mistake of posting the same poll in the ImpalaSS forum..and ive never seen a thread that brought so many negative replies..Negative is an understatement. They went nuts on me and acted like teenage girls...That group is like one big clique...say one thing wrong, and they hate you. Ya know, i may be part of a group of people that are into japanese cars, but at least in yalls' replies, there was a bit of respect for the Impala, even though some of you dont like those cars. Basically, the prelude was called Jap ****...and those guys attacked anything and everything they could find. I must say, I lost quite a bit of respect for them...so...I'd like to thank you all for not being complete assholes, even when you didnt agree with what my plans were.
('cept for Ogs, who i kicked in butt, but i forgive you for recommending that i break the impala. Baa humbug)

in the end, it will b your decision, but theres just sumthin bout the lude that catches the eye from a far.... yes the impala is fast, but the lude will be a bit more dependable.. just my opinion

Yea, i knew that in the beginning, but i just figured it would be a good discussion. Plus, i wasnt 100% sure about whether i should...But thanks to everyone for the input.

True, the lude is sexy...and its a hoot to drive...But somethin about the rumble of a Chevy small block with Flowmasters.

I actually took the SS to band practice last night and it felt so wierd driving it. It hasnt left the driveway in a few weeks. Felt like driving a school bus compared to the lude.

How many times do I have to ask you for pics of this thing man!

I agree on the sound, I grew up around V8s and there's something about the way a small block Chevvy sounds, in a tough streeter they almost bring a tear to my eye.

On the other hand, like E said, it probably won't take that much to get the Lude into the 14s. But if 14s enough? Once you get the Lude to 14s, then you'll need to spend big $$$ to get it to go faster.

But with the V8, a little bit faster won't/shouldn't cost that much extra. That and teh fact that the small block Chev has been around for so long that just about anybody can make good power out of them. I think the instructions were on the tablets that were carried down from the mountains in biblical times.

It all depends on what you want in the end. Personally I'd sell the Chev and go balistic on the Lude. But as it's been said before, it's your car dude.

First of all...Im never selling that car. Its worth too much to me.

Second...you'll get your damn pics as soon as i get some time at home. JEEEEZ...I have about a hundred or so but its all a matter of taking the time to sit down and put them on here...and with dialup, that takes a long time.

First, I know what everyone says about the v8 rumble. My dad has a small block dakota, that could smoke me in my accord. Since I got the lude, he can't touch me(I know not as much powerin dakota as impala). I see what everyone is saying bout the 'pala. But look at it this way, the highest I have ever seen an LT1 'pala for is about $54k(Twin turboed[900+Hp). The most I have seen a lude for $32k(Turboed[900+HP, plus a lot of CF]). I know for a fact, that the prelude would kill the chevy. One, cause the 'pala is an auto(unless u spend the $$$ to convert), two, the 'pala is pushing the same power, just more torque, and third, even though the 'pala may have the torque, the driveshaft would probably snap in two. Now, how many miles are on your lude and how many on the 'pala? If the lude has less, you would be better off using it for racing. Anyone out there with a v8, knows that after too much use, you have to overhaul(always will happen[don't say you don't have to, you will]).

Okay...not to be rude or anything so dont get me wrong...but, if you read the first few things i posted, you'll read in there somewhere that i dont want a race car, and even more importantly, I bought the lude as a daily driver...if i put a few grand into the lude to make it a race car, it will get worse mileage than the impala. and that will defeat the purpose of why i bought it in the first place. So...Impala it is. I like V8s better anyways.

I agree that the V8 is better, but imo i would just want to cruise around in the impala, u kno what i mean, pick up honeys... and with the size of that thing you could pick up mucho honeys.... but thats just my opinion... and if the lude is a daily driver than that really defeats the purpose.

Hell yea man...whenever my dad fires up the Corvette ('73 Stingray 350) in the garage with the door to the house open, it smokes up the whole house....i swear, those are the only times when i will get willingly high...anything else, dont touch it...but old carbed V8 smoke....yummies in my tummies.

PS...i have a few old pics of the vette, if anyone's interested in seeing the poor old neglected thing.
