It's time...

for me to move on most likely. This summer I will be taking my car to a body shop to see how the over all body of my prelude is. I want to make sure that the body is 'straight' because I have a gut feeling that it isn't. The car is salvage title, driver door doesn't close right (tried adjusting it), wheel pulls to the right (got it aligned and caster is off on one side), bummers are stupid retarded, trunk isn't aligned right (might be because my rear speakers get in the way of the metal bars on the trunk), and the driver side quarter panel is bonded up along with the inner door jam (previous owner took it out of the yard and "fixed" it up Im sure). So my prelude will most likely go bye bye. I will be selling my Greddy exhaust, ground control and Koni yellows and anything else I can take off of it and keep and sell separately. I've put in so much work into this car but it's time to let go

But...

this isn't the end of it. I'm looking for a mint bb4 to replace her or maybe just maybe another bb6. That unique dashboard and that nice round body is what I want lol This brings me to ask what YOU guys like about your bb4 and compare and contrast the bb6 to the bb4. What pros and cons do you see in the bb4 to the bb6? I will be putting my Koni suspension into the bb4. The pros I see in a bb4 are lighter weight, bad ass dashboard, obd1 and the cool nostrils. Which engine you guys like the most? I will be looking for a VTEC model since I'm pretty content with that from my bb6 or maybe an h23. Looking forward to your guys feed back and input :)

Here are two I'm looking at and I'm not going to pay what they say for eitehr of those looking to spend around 2,500 for a super minty prelude (minty as possible)

bb6 - newer (car) in every way, more "luxury", feels more like a car not a toy
bb4 - lighter (so with better engine faster than bb6), you can get more aftermarket parts for bb4

Thanks for the input. What kind of after market support for a bb4?

Re: It's time...

Idk if you have to worry about emissions where your at but most 4th gens(aside from the 96) are obd1 so you can do more to them without having to worry about failing emissions.

Im kinda in the same boat as you. I like 5th gens more but with where I live, I would fail emissions with what I would wanna do to the car. So right now Im kinda leaning more towards a 4th gen myself

Re: It's time...

mint bb4 (or bb1 since you want Si VTEC) will be hard to come by. may have to look for a while.

Love my BB1. Glad I got it over a BB6.

Interior: sitting in a 5th gen interior reminded me of a 94-97 accord interior which is pretty much where it's from. 4th gen interior is one of a kind for a Honda. Contrary to what haters think, dash layout is incredible. Who needs to look at the passenger part of the dash anyways? It's such a joy to be in that spaceship cockpit, time doesn't seem to matter when in it. DRL/SRS/ABS light on? Who cares! Oh and the seats...the seats are EPIC. You don't need "racing" seats unless you really want them, because the stock seats were designed by Recaro. They sit low to the cars floor and are fairly light and compact. Not nearly as bulky like the 5th gens. Only beef with 4th gen interior is Honda put their own version of a chassis stiffening device which makes it so you can't put the rear seat down. Instead you're only able to open a 1 foot by 1 foot door in the rear seat. Can't explain it good but you can easily find pics of it.

Exterior: Rear end looks lacking with out some sort of rear lip, triangular tail lights are love it or hate it, front face needs a front lip and JDM black housing headlights to look good IMO like a 6/10 butter face going to a 8+/10 model with those two mods alone. The way the rear fenders flare out is a nice touch too. A real pain if you get hit there or they start rusting out though. May even need wheel spacers if making wheels sit flush is your thing.

Suspension: 5th gen Non-SH suspension is just a slightly revised/enhanced version of 4th gen suspension with most of the parts being interchangeable. You may not even notice a difference except that the 5th gen's body is a bit longer, and a bit heavier. 5th gen coilovers/springs/struts are interchangeable so you can throw them on a 4th gen...which is interesting as there are some coils, etc. that have been used on a 5th gen, but never on a 4th gen.

Engine: has to be an H22A/F20B/H23A!

Wheel selection: pretty poor unless you swap to 5 lug. Otherwise there's lot of 240sx/180sx, AE86, etc. spec wheels out there. IT-R wheels are my favourite, glad that Honda at least shares the same 4 lug pattern. I would say at least half the 4th gens out there have had drift missile wheels handed down to them. Or maybe just mine. lol

heh, guess why I have red rep? I speak straight the truth and usually its not what people want to hear

oh I forgot:

for bb6 theres more rims available since its 5x114
bb4 is 4x114 so theres no that much selection

I like 5th gen better for one reason: its newer and feels more like a car than the older models

I remember something too about the 2nd or 3rd gens beating a certain ferrari in the slalom, cant remember which model of ferrari but it's an old one, Ludes were meant for fun. My 4th gen is sticky as ****, even with poop for bushings, I have a little understeer, but its nothing that a rear lower sway bar bigger than 25-27mm cant fix.. Maybe a smaller front sway. SH's must just be scary..

yeah in 1997 and till its discontinuation in 2001 it got best handling FWD and that was the SH ATTS or torque vectoring model.

Also technically the 4th gen VTEC model is the fastest prelude from the factory in North America but only by a fraction of a second...maybe .3 of a second difference at best in the 1/4 mile.

Lastly 10 years before '97 the 4ws 3rd gen was taking names. Ferrari, Porsche, Lamborghini...and made '87 car of the year. As to why Top Gear UK never did an episode on this car...IDK...would be nice to see where it stands on their leaderboards. lol

I love my space ship. Most people that see my interior like it as well. There is plenty of aftermarket support. I've made my car my own and get thumbs up almost daily. Performance was only an issue when I had my first Prelude with the F22. Even then, that was nothing a swap wouldn't have fixed.

I've driven 5th gens also and didn't think "Oh wow. A car." Just me.

Im kinda in the same boat as you. I like 5th gens more but with where I live, I would fail emissions with what I would wanna do to the car. So right now Im kinda leaning more towards a 4th gen myself
Yeah that's a big one but way later down the road when I do a build but good point.

I love my bb6 and my friends think it's the nicest one around it's just that I really feel like I'm rolling in a ****ed up body because it kind of pulls to the right side :/ nothing major just depends on the road too.

Or maybe just mine. lol
Thanks man great info! Also back seat space sucks in a 4th gen you have only like 3 inches to put your feet in there. Another good excuse for having no one in the back though ;)
