Loss of VTEC???

I was driving the other day and tried to kick in VTEC, but I didn't feel it. My gas was about an eighth of a tank. Can you lose VTEC if you don't have enough gas?

don't ever let your car get below a quarter. good rule of thumb for high performance engines.

Check your oil. Make sure you have sufficient oil. Since VTEC is Driven by oil pressure, engine temp, and vehicle speed, if you don't have crap for oil you won't feel VTEC for crap. I've ran my car on E many of times before waiting for payday to come around :D And I've never not felt it engage with any amount of gas. Your tach/speedometer work? Here's a silly question but do you have a thermostat? I know I bypassed mine for some of the summer and recently threw one back in for winter, but if you don't have a thermostat and it's cold out your water temp will not heat up fast at all because a constant flow of coolant when unneccessary. My VTEC was weak when it was cold and I didn't have a thermostat in. Just things to check.

Any CEL's?

you just bought that car didn't you jamesis(off ebay for $15k)? welcome either way. I got it fixed. I need the truth how much oil does the lude use(01)? I just had to put in four quarts, but the head is fine, no spots under parking spot, and no smoking. Tuns out the vtec had kicked in, just did not feel it.

i boughht the car a month ago and have had a few probs with it but ive almost got it straightened out. I only gave $10500 for it but ive dropped $1500 in it maybe another $700 and she feel better. So you didnt feel vtec cause it was low on oil. mine holds 5 quarts or a lil more but i check it every other day cause when u run it in vtec she burns oil around a quart and a half a month depends on how hard you run it. has any body tried royal purple in there lude???

I can not use any oil with mine for 9,000km, then go for a hard run through the touge one night and use a litre in 300km. It all depends on how hard you drive the car buddy. There are other factors, like engine wear and oil viscosity etc but driving style is the main one.

Oil

my '00 takes 5.1 quarts. They DO burn oil when you ride em like they should, so keep up on the level.
