supercharging a 4th gen h22a prelude

Other then the supercharger kit, what else do I need?

Im a noob at supercharging.

Should I upgrade the engine internals?
Do I need to get stronger engine mounts?

What do I need for it to be successful?

thank you

suspension upgrades that youll get the power to ground (sway/traction bars, good coilovers), lsd transmission, good header, aftermarket radiator to keep cooling in control

dunno about valvetrain upgrade is it needed...and what kind of power stock driveshaft/axles can handle

You have to rebuild the engine. You have to put steel sleeves the frm sleeves don't last that long under pressure. If you don't you run the risk of blowing your engine.

Re: supercharging a 4th gen h22a prelude

The piston rings are the issue, not the sleeves.

You can run 6psi on stock internals. You can run a s/c with just basics, but to be successful and actually get some decent power you'll need to do quite a bit, even with the stock 6psi.

First off, make sure your motor's maintenance is up to date;

compression test/leak down test
timing belt/water pump
no major oil leaks

what you'll need to consider;

engine management
fuel pump
custom pulley rail for supercharger (assuming you're intending to go JRSC)
complete JRSC unit
injectors
fpr/gauge
boost gauge
header/exhaust
stiffer engine mounts
decent clutch
tune

You can just slap the unit on in conjunction with a boost gauge and management system - but the end results won't be that great unless you go further like in the above list.

and finally, research research research!!!

Re: supercharging a 4th gen h22a prelude

cams , full exhaust, intake mani mods , and a GOOD tune will possibly net you 30-40 hp N/A

They dont make a supercharger "kit" for 4th gens, 5th gen only....a few people have used that kit to work on a 4th gen but a custom bracket is needed to work.

Re: supercharging a 4th gen h22a prelude

Well, you can look at my thread and see what I went with. I was able to get 275whp at 9psi and that was with a vacuum leak. I'm rebuilding now and upgrading to get more out of it and move up to 12 psi. The worst my engine gave me was the rings going bad and the Vtec solenoid.
