Re: Any1 do their own wheel alignment?

I know a guy who does his own. He says it's easy. He also owns a shop..lol
Seriously, it's not that hard. But I prefer the computer getting everything spot on.
To me it's lazer beam eye vs jim beam eye. I'll take the lazer when working on a car and the jim after that.

Re: Any1 do their own wheel alignment?

its easy to do but youll never get it as accurate as the lasers. you can take a tape measure and measure the distance between the front of the wheels and the back of the wheels and try to get it as close as possible for the caster. for the camber you can use a level vertical to the wheel and measure the distance between the level and the top of the tire. again its no where as accurate as lasers.

Re: Any1 do their own wheel alignment?

yeah I know it wont be as accurate as the lazer but it sucks paying 80 bucks everytime I change any suspension components, plus I hate waiting at pepboys etc or leaving my car at the mechanic shop for a day don't trust them

Yea at my shop haha, like said you will never get it right. Why would you have to leave your car there for a day? I finish most alignments in ten minutes lol.

Re: Any1 do their own wheel alignment?

I brought my 95 olds aurora to Firestone for an alignment once, took 5 hrs and the ahole who test drove it drove it like he owned it. I could tell because the car told me the MPG and it was down 1.3 MPG which takes a whole lot of flooring it to do... a few choice words and I'm banned from all Firestone across the nation. Ohh and my steering wheel was still not straight, f'in bastards.

Get lifetime alignment. We have them over here in Cali, cost is around $200.00 and you can get your car aligned as much as you need to.

My wife and I have free alignments as long as we own our cars. but it's worth the money to just have it done professionally and accurately

Seems a little excessive to do that, but if you get them for life might as well do it every chance you get.

If you are running into bad mechanics: I always walk in, tell em what I want.

And then instead of sitting in the waiting room biting your fingernails like you are in a ER waiting room, watch the mechanic get in your car and drive it to the lift....

Go outside, and pull out a lawn chair and just SIT in front of the door to the garage where your car is and smoke some cigarettes. I hawk eye the f*** out of those bastards and if they do something jacked up, start yelling.

As a mechanic I hate people like you, but as a customer I'm the same way :)

LOLOLOLOLOL!!!!

I'm the same way, but I don't smoke and I get the guy lunch when the job is done. Some shops don't pay their mechanics right. Have you seen what they drive? It's always an OMNI or a chevette or a VW hatch from the 80's!

^^^^ noooooooo!!!!! Don't turn this into a GOVT thread!!! ^^^^

Businesses in NYC simply don't participate in national promotions, they just don't honor it.
On the flip side, customer's ruin the opportunities, by abusing the offer. They are just not satisfied. Ruins the opportunity for everyone.
